Do any of you still have some of the very first artwork you ever did as a little kid?
What did you like to make or draw?
If you have a pic, post it!October 20, 2015 at 6:52 pm #936137I drew horses facing left. Still do.
October 20, 2015 at 7:20 pm #936141The first memorable art lesson I learned all on my own was…that a horses’ body shape looks kind of like a peanut with it’s shell. At 7-8 yrs it was a profound revelation for me. I don’t have any of my earliest artwork, but I think my mom has some of it though!

Horse’s backs look like canned pears. The rear end . From the top.

SO TRUE! The peanut with shell is only noticeable in the profile view of a horse’s body. I had thought poads looked like pears from above, but on reflection I think they look more like mangoes.

https://www.redbubble.com/people/prezaurian?ref=artist_title_nameOctober 21, 2015 at 5:40 pm #936187I started drawing horses in Grade School as early as I can remember. Mostly in profile, and facing left as well. Maybe because I’m right handed? I used to draw them all the time and all over my school notes and notebooks.
In High School, I started doing more fantasy style drawings like ‘Demon’ flylng horses and unicorns, and some dragons and dinosaurs. I do still have some linoleum block carvings I did in Fabrics class – my favorite one was a flying unicorn I did in 1978 when I was a Junior. I’ll post a photo soon when I get back in town next week. Lots of good memories.

I’m sure my mom has some of my really early stuff someplace! Lol

Excellent!
October 22, 2015 at 9:24 am #936185I remember drawing dragons and writing short stories back in 1988, which is what started the madness! Then I got into Piers Anthony’s work, and mom bought my first Windstone Editions dragon in the early 90s….I have some stuff here, that I would have to dig out…but the majority of stuff from my childhood is burried deep in mom’s basement, in an unmarked box. I remember being 11 years old, and sitting in the back yard, in a lawn chair, with a charcoal pencil and a pad of paper….eventually, all my dragons started to look alike, lol…but what do you want!? I was 11, hee!hee!!

October 22, 2015 at 2:28 pm #936245I used to draw a lot when I was young as well. I was into Wildlife, my favorite artist was Robert Bateman… I still love his stuff. I drew ducks, lots of them, but didnt keep any
I also drew white-tailed deer a lot, and I went through my horses and unicorns phase also. Mine always faced right though, and Im right-handed. I cant imagine drawing one facing left !?
I also drew my share of skulls and creepy things
I do have some of those lying around here somewhere, if I ever get a chance to post them up I will
I do miss drawing, but I find I have lost the skill…. I guess its true when they say if you don’t use it, you’ll loose it, lol !
October 22, 2015 at 5:11 pm #936247Most of mine faced left too, I think its a familiarity with repetition as well as your dominant hand. If I am not using a reference, I still seem more inclined to draw to the left, although you so a lot more head on work from me though.

I was inspired by animated movies, so I was always trying to draw things in action. For ages I couldn’t draw a stationary pose. A horse just standing still? Forget it! That was a long time ago though – any drawing vices like that which I still had at the end of highschool were destroyed in university. I probably sound like a stuck record, but with art practice makes perfect. You must keep at it if you want to improve or even retain your skill.
Art’s fun, but it requires discipline!
