I have a question about the Brown Female Griffins in the store. Regular, versus Stripey winged. The ones that match the retired Tan/Brown male are the ones I mean (not wolf color).
Looking at the pictures, they all seem to be different colors. The babies look kinda orangey, the regular female looks pale, and the stripey wing female looks darker. Before deciding which I want, I want to double check that they are all the same color in life and the differences are just in the pictures.
So… were all the Brown Griffins painted with the same paint? They are all the same color, right, just slightly different patterns?
January 26, 2009 at 5:44 am #750100Well, I’ve got a regular (non-stripey) male, a stripey winged female, and two of the griffin chicks, so I can help shed some light on the color. There isn’t anything orangey about the griffin chicks. They match the color of the regular male that I have pretty well. The chicks are supposed to go with both versions of brown griffins, but the ones that I have match the lighter version better. The stripey-winged female is quite a bit darker with darker antiquing and bolder markings. She is supposed to match the stripey-winged male which is also darker and has bolder markings. The stripey and non-stripey winged versions actually look quite a bit different from each other in person. I hope this helps a little.

The brown griffin mother and chicks that we paint now are all painted with the same paint color. The markings differ, and the stripey winged ones may have more dark brown on them. The retired males, however, will vary in color. Not only did we use two different brands of paints on them, they were painted by lots of different painters over many many years. They are all over the map, from light golden tan to a darker tan, they have different markings and shading too. I tried to match the females to two of the extremes, one white winged, one with a dark stripy wing pattern. You may find tan male griffins on ebay that are somewhere between those two extremes in pattern and color.January 27, 2009 at 12:43 am #750102Ohhh, ok! So it’s not just the pictures. That helps alot. Now I just have to decide which appeals more. I am tending to like the stripey one, even though my male is non-stripey, his darker parts seem really dark. *sets male beside computer monitor* So hard to decide. Something tells me he’s going to be a polygamist.

February 4, 2009 at 3:26 pm #750105I still need to get a female griffy or two… (well, three to be exact) My poor male griffies are starting to look rather frazzled from chasing down the chickies that keep escaping the nest… I know how they feel; I’ve chased twinners myownself. Not easy…
