So… I really wanted to start an art thread. I love to make things, I make them all the time, I make all kinds of things (some better than others, but I like to try a lot of things). I never know where to start though. I really hope this dosen’t come off too self-promotional, I just really want to share.
I guess I’ll start with Audrey II. She was a project I did last year for a production of Little Shop of Horrors. I designed and built all phases of the puppet which is now currently for rent though the San Diego Jr. Theater. My degree is in Theater and my background is in costume but I love doing puppets and effect work.
More photos of her here.
Apart from theater I like to make a lot of things. Sometimes I make Art Dolls.
Sometimes I make stuffed things.
Sometimes I sculpt things.
I also like to paint, sometimes I do surreal things…
… or abstract ones…
… or fantasy things…
… I really like to tell stories with my own characters, creatures, and scenarios when I can.
I keep a current blog of my sketching, art projects, and inspiration on my Tumblr, and (try to) regularly update my Website with finished work (as well as my DeviantArt account)*. I also enjoy occasional photography, and keep a flickr account updated with my latest. I sell artwork, plush animals, art dolls, and other original work through Etsy shop, prints and other merchandise through Society6, and have even opened a Spoonflower shop where I’m trying a few patterns with the intent of maybe using them for future projects.
I’ll try to keep this thread updated with what I’m working on if anyone is interested though, or maybe I should post some more older things in thematic groups? I don’t really quite know what’s next, I really just wanted to try posting some of my art to see what others think. I enjoy any kind of feedback, be it just a comment or a longer critique or insight.
*(While I will only post SFW art here, please note that my website and blog may feature occasional male or female nudity and the rare strong language, mild body horror, or other strong themes. I aim not to be crude or offensive, but I do sometimes tackle various concepts and themes which might be considered ‘adult’.)
May 19, 2014 at 9:15 am #912817Cool artwork! I like the puppet at the top! I wouldn’t know how to make anything like that but it’s neat to see other people’s art!
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

Thank you!
I don’t know if it would interest you, but I did an entire instruction set on how I built every phase which is readable here with lots of progress photos. It wasn’t a perfect build and I learned a lot, hopefully to use on future projects!

May 21, 2014 at 1:13 pm #912890Wow! Very impressive! Your work reminds me of another artist I know. Wonderful person <3 Jack of all trades sort of girl. You're so lucky that you are so multi talented! I love the large Audrey puppet and the artwork of the heron swallowing up the demons… or expelling them. Not 100% positive but that was my interpetation.

Thank you very much! I really love to do a bit of everything.
The title on that one is ‘The Day The Crane Ate the Wolves’ and is from a series of faux mythology images (images that look to be part of some myth with various indicative titles) It’s a personal favorite :D. Honestly I love whatever people take out of things, after it’s out of my hands, it’s really up to the viewer what they take from what I do, and it’s great hearing other interpretations.
On a light and unrelated note, I just finished this up for a commissioner who wanted a plush version of a favorite kitty. I was very happy to oblige.
June 11, 2014 at 11:50 pm #914003I’ve got a few new critters up in my Etsy store. I’m really pleased with these little guys, though I know the style isn’t to everyone’s taste. After one more batch of them I’ll be doing more fantasy oriented stuff.
Vintage Polka Dot Giraffe Available Here
Vintage Green Scale Kirin Available Here
For the more fantasy oriented portion of today’s art, I finished up this watercolor a while back
He’s a fellow from a dream a while back. ‘Humanity’ at the brink of collapse had split into three subgroups through various means, the humans, the flight-afflicted, and the merfolk. While once a hope of the last bastion of human thought, the merfolk had long since distanced themselves from land-dwelling humans and were considered little more than a food source. This unfortunate one seems to have captured someone’s attention and is being kept for entertainment.
I think that’s a good update for now! There’s always more it seems like, but this is all ready to share.
June 12, 2014 at 12:38 am #914009Wow! That’s beautiful and tragic at the same time. Very well done

June 27, 2014 at 10:18 pm #914825Hi all, I’m sorry I seem to still be coming up rather shy about posting in various forums. I think of replies but then just have the hardest time hitting that post button.
I’ve been feeling pretty inspired of late, I have more in the works that isn’t ready to show yet, but here’s a variety of things:
Sharpie sketch, I wanted to do something with a critter with poofy pants with tiny attached boots. I find that stylistic quirk very charming, though it’s not innate to the way I usually work.

A father's day card for my dad, he loves to sail.
Last of the little ‘felt eyes’ style vintage creatures for now. These little goats are also up on Etsy.
Found these little ones roaming around the yard, they seem pretty friendly.
(They would probably like more permanent homes, is this something anyone would be interested in?)
That’s it for the moment I think, I have more sketches and art to share, but that’s probably a long enough post for now.
June 28, 2014 at 1:13 am #914837Wow, those last three things, what are you calling them? They kind of have a whimsy that makes me think of something out of a Studio Ghibli film. I actually really kind of like them… how much would you want for one, out of curiosity?

Thank you!
I’m still sort of mulling on that but I’m thinking something like ‘Wood Walkers’ or ‘Mosslings’ still a bit up in the air on that one.
I’d probably be asking something like $18 or so, they’re small but a bit fiddly to do, and a little more detailed than what I usually do at that size. If that seems a fair number, it’s always tricky pricing.

No worries, you are not alone, I do this all the time… in fact, several times in your thread!
I love those little wood critters, they remind me of Moon Baby. My Great Grandpa found Moon Baby in his backyard, she was a piece of wood that looked like some sort of alien animal baby. Sadly she is long lost now, I never had a chance to rescue her after my great grandparents passed away.
I would definitely be interested in one of those little guys.

I’m glad I’m not. I need to work on that… I really appreciate you replying!
Hah, that sounds quite fantastic. I have a small stick that looks very much like a snake (the small knots in it are in just the right place for eyes, mouth, and nostrils. Pity it is lost, but nature is full of wonderful things.
I think I’m going to have to give these guys their own real due, and set them up with stories and such.
