Hi all!
I learned about Windstone Editions thanks to a majorly lucky score at a thrift store in LA of a gorgeous white unicorn. She has some chips on her hoof, but I’m no perfectionist and think she’s divine!
Curious about who made her, I looked into Windstone. I greatly admire their works and am tickled to learn there is a big community of supporters and fans who can congregate here (and perhaps other places online) to talk about their collection.
Truth be told, I am also a Features writer for The Los Angeles Times. I have built a career writing about quirky, unique, non-traditional topics and would love to learn more about the community behind Windstone. Because Windstone is based in North Hollywood, it is applicable for the Times.
I am a fan and not here to judge or exploit. My job is to tell true stories about interesting people doing interesting things. Clearly I am not immune to the charm of these works of arts. But….I would love to hear from others about this because simply quoting myself would be boring.
I’m not sure if there is a story here but I’m hoping to learn more about YOU GUYS and your relationship to your Windstone creatures and one another. If you are willing to respond here, great. You can also email me at jessiewritesgood@gmail.com.

April 17, 2025 at 11:45 am #1693549I started collecting Windstones about 25 years ago, when I was about 15. I only got six of them then, and then I stopped collecting until 2022.
Now I’ve spent $60,000 on them (yikes) and I have about 130.
I like making little displays with them. I started going to rock and gem shows to find rocks to display with with them, and now collecting rocks is one of my favorite hobbies, too.
Windstone did move from California and is now in Corvallis, Oregon. So I’m not sure if “used to be based in North Hollywood” is enough to count as something that can go in the Times.

April 17, 2025 at 11:54 am #1693550I remember seeing Windstone dragons in a candle shop at the local mall when I was a kid. I was drawn to them right away. I have always loved dragons and mythical creatures. I don’t know how much I have spent but I have a very large collection. They are art. The attention to detail down to the sculpted feathers and scales is lifelike. I have other dragon things but none compared to the detail of the Windstone dragons. I see them as an art investment. I have at least one of all the sculpts and at least one sculpt of every production color. I am running out of display room now so just buying grab bags or any new sculpt to come along.
April 17, 2025 at 1:25 pm #1693552I posted your question on the Windstone Facebook fan page. Some folks are answering there!

From the uniqueness, artistry, talent, color combos, high end collectables from the very talented hands and mind of Ms.Melody Pena to the impressive customer satisfaction.
We ask her for a particular sculpture to be produced for us and most of the time she can oblige.
Their little company has brought much joy and beauty into my life like many, many other collectors and lovers of fantasy art.
I have my sculptures in half my rooms of my home.I never tire of just looking at them. One of my favorite chores is cleaning them and showing them some love.
They have also built a wonderful little community with us online and on some personal level.Ms.Melody and Ms.Susie never fail to respond to us personally with answers to our many questions. You will not find that kind of service anywhere else in today’s world,in my opinion because I have never come across one.
As for how much I have spent?Clueless. After collecting actively since 2008,I have no idea, my collection fluctuates.
I am very grateful they have entered my world.I have made new friends, met many awesome people,I personally have some pyos I painted in 6 different countries.I could never have been able to accomplish that feat if not for Windstone Editions and Ms.Melody Pena and I wouldn’t change a thing.Every act matters. No matter how small💞

One thing I forgot to ask about is the community that Windstone has created here with its forum. Outside of talking about Windstone characters, maintenance, etc., I would love other examples of his this online community has played a role in your lives. Have you connected with friends, online or in real life? Adopted/rescued pets through connects made on here? Met romantic partners? Gotten great recipes or figured out the secret to getting red wine out of couches? Received support through hard times (tips on staying sober, tips on going vegan). Stuff like that! I will also ask this to the Facebook group.

April 17, 2025 at 5:33 pm #1693557My budget has never allowed me to spend much on Windstones, but my family has something of an obsession with them. A couple of Christmases ago, rather than exchange gifts, we bought PYO Windstones and painted them as a family.
I have to be careful with mine. One of my cats has a taste for Windstones. Given a chance, she will chew on them. I have to keep mine where she cannot get at them easily. It’s not too uncommon for cats to like them.
