Okay so I finally got around to trying a tea staining experiment.

This is after a dunking in hot(yowch!!)strong Orange Pekoe Tea

      And here he is finished!

I used a blue interference paint to highlight some of his scales, a pale gold metallic on his horns and claws and finally a matte varnish.

          In tea? 😯

          Does he smell good? 😀

          I like the outcome!

Ahh he says he’s quite happy sitting on the shelf with the other PYO dragons 😀

I’m happy with the result, but more experimentaion is needed. I’m going to try different teas. I can’t believe how much moisture the gypsum sucks up!

Oh, I like the cream color that results from the tea. I’m guessing the tea staining wouldn’t be archival?

I wonder if the moisture he sucked up will re-evaporate out…and if that will affect any clearcoat layers….hmmm….let us know! How much of your tea did he suck up?

He doesn’t smell and I let him air dry for a few days before painting and then a couple more before clearcoating. I don’t think that it will affect the clear coat since the stain is part of the stone now. As for fading… I have no idea. He didn’t suck up too much cause I didn’t leave him in long. but he didn’t take any time to suck up remaining moisure once he was out of his bath.

If anyone was help trying this PM me!! I’d be doing more but am out of PYOs
