well, for me anyway. We are finally going to add on to the house!! It is currently only 833 sq ft. It drives me nuts! No privicy, and no place to paint, sew, or anything else. No place for my books, and the place is over run by dragons (imagine that 🙂 ). Anyway, the add on will be 32’x20′. My part will be 18’x20′. My computer will go in there along with my display case. This will really open up the living room. And I’m going to have book cases and a nice chair for reading. In the middle of the room will be a large table/desk of some sort for crafts/sewing/painting/etc. AND, if we still have money left, I’m getting a new display case! Actually, 2 if we get what I want. I will also have wall space! I have Windstone and Bergsma prints that haven’t been out for 5 years! The other 14’x20′ will be my husbands music room. Then we can get his sound system out of the living room too. More space!!
The add on will make the house U shaped when it’s done and we are going to build a deck in that U. It is going to be totally enclosed so that the cats can go out there. We already have a door that goes out there (that’s hidden by my display case) because my husband knew he would have a deck there some day. We will also put in a cat door for the kittys. This deck is going to be more of a cat habitat than it will be for us. 😀
I’m so excited. We’ve been talking about it for 5 years and it’s finally going to happen! I mean, it’s REALLY going to happen! The refinancing is done (at a lower rate than we had!) and we have money in the bank! 😀 😀 😀 Can you tell that I’m excited? Honestly, this was getting to be a depressing subject for me. I dreamed about it all the time, but was becoming more and more convinced that it would never happen. But I was wrong!! 😀 😀 😀 (Happy dance)

March 24, 2008 at 12:44 am #681605March 24, 2008 at 12:53 am #681606We will be careful. Fortunately, my husband knows alot about this stuff. He remodeled this house when he bought it 15 years ago. It was a real dump. He got an award for most improved property when he was done. We are hiring our neighbor to do the outside work. Russ has been closely watching his work on a house he is currently working on and really likes his work. They have talked about our house and they see eye to eye on most of what Russ wants. The other contractors that he’s talked to kept trying to talk him into cheaper ways to go. He wont do it. He built this place to last. And it’s very well insulated. One of the things he did was put shiplap on the walls. Maybe overkill, but I can hang things anywhere I want on the walls. No looking for studs. And it’s part of why the place is so well insulated. Work wont start for another month or two, so it will be a while before there’s anything to take pictures of, but I’ll keep you guys posted.
March 24, 2008 at 1:18 am #681607Congrats! I love the kitty habitat-I’ve always wanted something like that! Sounds like the addition will be great for everyone! 🙂
March 24, 2008 at 1:25 am #681608Congrats! I’m just starting to get the “I want to remodel now” bug. We just bought this house in Oct ’06, so we haven’t had it long, but it definately needs a bathroom upstairs, even if it only has a toliet and sink, I would be estatic.
