Looks like he’s been immersed in water for a long time, or maybe scrubbed really hard. I had this happen to a very old Gargoylingus when I washed the dust off of it, and the eggshell detail just started peeling off! In my case, I suspect the previous owner cleaned the piece with a solvent, like glass cleaner or furniture polish, that dissolved the protective clearcoat over the paint.

I saw that fellow earlier and thought his egg looked funny. I couldn’t decide if finish had been peeled off or painted over.

I agree… maybe water damage. He would look cute in a shallow pond in a turtle tank or something, but he is just not made for it.

I can fix him! Perhaps I should nab him, if the price isn’t bad.

It look like he’s going for about $12 right now. It hasn’t gone up much for a day or so now.

But what if it HAS been standing in an aquarium and it’s all crumbly inside. Or are you assuming that and would be expecting to do a complete rebuild?

Would it really be worth it for something that is still available brand new for $32.00?
