How many times do we have to say that “ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND E-BAY??
I’m sorry but I’m really getting tired of wasting the forum time talking about poeople that have more money and can out bid people.
We have all had losses like this and have to just pick up the pieces and move on. I lost the 1st 23KT Gold Leaf Hatching Empress and I had a bid of $1950 and got out bid at the last second.
I’m sorry but I’m hoping that we can stop worrying about who has the ability to get whatIt’s a valid conversation! After all, nearly all of us bid on eBay. 🙂 Being sad over being outbid on things is part of the forum and always will be due to the fact that most of the special stuff goes on eBay. Folks are allowed to come here and get a sympathetic ear from others. I think the whole point of this conversation is to point out that one should be above pointing specific blame onto another. It is one thing to come here and say “I’m bummed about losing a piece” and quite another to say “I’m bummed because someone else stole a piece I was bidding on, or I’m angry because Person A outbid me”.
No one is attacking or addressing you in this situation DM, so there is really no need to try and turn it around to be about you. 🙂 If the topic bothers you, then avoid it or do not reply. In any group of people there are bound to be topics that come up that not everyone will enjoy- it’s just best to avoid them if this is the case.

‘Scuse me, but I had to put my two cents in here.
Talking about a subject like this is a very good way to let off bad feelings and ruffled feathers in a way that is both constructive, and non-harmful to everyone in the community. Mainly because I think at some point, we are all disappointed by being snipered, or having something we really, really wanted taken from us. This is part of the community spirit here, and one of the reasons why this community is great, because we can talk about things that bother us without it turning into a huge drama fest. If you really do dislike it that much, you may always close the window.
For my bit – I was very much in love with the black violet peacock old warriors, and I could never afford one, nor is it likely I will ever get one. Best to let it slide than dwell on it. Windstone is not going to run out of pretty things for us to buy anytime soon.

I was not trying to make it about me!! I was just using it as an example to say things happen and you need to get over them. Sorry if I have a different outlook then everyone else. The universe brings you what you are sopposed to have. That was what I learned by watching the “Secret” that I had talked aobut earlierNovember 29, 2007 at 3:48 am #639288No hard feelings. I misunderstood your intent when you brought that up. 🙂

My art: featherdust.comNovember 30, 2007 at 6:51 am #639289A few thoughts from me ^_^
1) I’ve seen a sentiment expressed more than once here where a user posts an entry as a vent and then the impression is given that the vent will just exist by itself without a discussion because that’s generally how vents are meant to go. But the inherent nature of a forum invites discussion so I think that venting must always be done with the awareness that it’s not just a vent but opens a door for people to respond. And that response may not be favourable or sympathetic. If that is an upsetting thought, there are many other ways to vent without having to involve other people – locked blog, email sent to a person you know won’t respond, writing it out on paper and then throwing it away, etc.
2) That said, no one post gives anyone the excuse to publically or privately abuse another member, however disagreeable the post may be seen. Seems obvious but Kyrin’s comments make me think otherwise for some people out there
3) I agree with the sentiment that sniping is neither good nor evil, but merely a strategy employed by some users for various reasons. I snipe because it can be a good way to keep the final amount low but it’s also blown up in my face many times as well because it leaves you no margin for beating the top bid if it happens to be much higher than your top bid. That split-second last moment is a double-edged sword, really.
4) People have been saying all is fair in love and ebay but I think it’s more accurate to say that Ebay is never fair and that’s because it is based on the idea of selling a finite number of items to an infinite possible number of people. We see things on there all the time that we want and it is not physically possible for every person to own things that are of limited number or even a single unique object. One way or another, one person will win and the rest have to lose.
5) In a very real way, we are all greedy for Windstone so I think it’s unfair to suggest that some of us are more greedy than others. Having more money doesn’t make someone greedier, it makes them better able to act on that greed.
I don’t know why I numbered these thoughts, I just felt it would help LOL

I like that elegant formulation. 🙂

Or someone could just be trying to gain sympathy by taking what was actually said and changing the context. But hey, who knows?

There is always that possibility, but without proof is really idle speculation at best 🙂 But seeing as we have seen our fair share of disagreements publically on here where people didn’t pull their punches, I don’t think it’s a stretch to think it happens sometimes in private as well. If a user says they felt personally attacked, hopefully that was done by mistake and can be fixed through cooperation and discussion between the two parties. I was speaking beyond just Kyrin’s situation but her feelings are her own and we cannot begin to dispute something as personal and subjective as feelings 🙂
November 30, 2007 at 7:37 am #639294Too true. I suppose its not how the post was meant, but how it was taken that counts.

Every post we make, we have to take responsibility for our words. We can’t control how they are taken and sometimes they will be taken in a way that will be negative no matter how hard we try, due to personal history / sore spots / etc. We can only do our best to express ourselves as clearly as we can, do our due diligence when it comes to dealing with the shortcomings of online communication, and hope that if someone DOES take offense where no offense was meant, that they will try to reach common ground rather than explode. Sometimes that’s not possible and we just have to accept that and do what we can with those willing to reach out.
