I’m not to keen on being accused of being mean because I voice unhappiness about the actions of others. My feeling is that it is mean to snipe an auction out from someone at the last minute, so stating such is not unfair or mean in itself, but others here feel differently.
Unfortunately for me, the only way I will ever get the sculptures I want for my collection is to go on evilbay, there are no other sources for the ones I want, since most of them are retired.
Also unfortunately I will never have thousands of dollars to throw at the ones I want to guarantee my success at getting them. So my only real hope is that the folks with the bucks will not be interested in what I want, when I can afford to go after something. Which never seems to happen.
I don’t think it is asking too much to let some of us little dogs with little money to be allowed to win an auction now and then, but apparently no one cares.
I see folks showing off their 8 same mold LE sculptures in every color ever done, and while I am glad for them, I also feel a bit resentful because I and others like me will never have a chance to have one. And didn’t get that chance because the one with the 8 had more money, and always will, so they will always be the ones to get those specials. Which makes it a pipe dream for those of us who happen to have bills, etc.
I’m human enough to resent that. But also decent enough to understand that it’s the way things are, and not resent them personally. But I would be a liar to say I didn’t envy those out there who can afford to take these things so far out of my reach it isn’t funny.
I don’t hold a grudge against those who snipe things from out from under me, but I admit to being angry at their greediness at the time it occurs. Who wouldn’t, and no one here can honestly say that when it happens to them they aren’t steamed. If they did, then I would accuse them of lying. It may be the way it goes, business, etc… but when it happens to you, you are still mad. Not that you won’t get over it, but it is still irritating.
I don’t like bidding against you guys, it’s hard to not consider how any of you might feel about it. I am not that selfish, there is nothing I want so badly that I will trample any of you intentionally to get it. Nothing. Now unintentionally, that’s different, and I am aware that the person who got what I wanted this time may not have had a clue how much it meant to me that I win it. I don’t hate them, or think that they are a bad person. I just felt at the time it happened that their action was kinda mean. Do I think that person is a mean person, no.
Am I gonna hold a grudge, no. However, I am human enough that if the person who won him wanted me to fix him, that I just can’t. It would be like pouring lemon juice into a papercut. Just unfair to ask me.
I’m human, what can I say, not a saint, not perfect and just as flawed as the rest of you.
What a concept.

November 25, 2007 at 8:23 pm #493423November 25, 2007 at 8:43 pm #639226I wasn’t going after a rare piece but I got knocked out of the running too, which stinks since the one before it went for 20.50 and this one went for 78.00+. I don’t have a LOT of money to toss at anything at the moment. So I know how it feels to go after what you want and have it “takin” away from you.
Yes that is the way it goes on EvilBay but damn. Makes ya feel like poo.

I believe I said something similar (along with a few other things) back when the Sun Griffin was auctioned.

You want people to lay off an auction so you can have something for less, but the snipers are greedy? 😆 Riiiight. As for being mean, it was statements such as this that I was referring to. Your posts are filled with them.

November 25, 2007 at 9:57 pm #639230I think a lot of people feel like that when they suddenly lose an auction they considered “theirs”. I’ve made the mistake before of becoming really attached to an auction, being high bidder the whole time and basically thinking it was already mine before the auction ended.
I’ve learned to never consider an item is anywhere close to being “mine” until after it’s completely over. (And even then it safely reaching you isn’t assured.) That way you don’t get that damaging emotional attachment and sense of entitlement, which is only human, but can also cause hurt feelings.
If we backed off from each other and never bid on auctions that other forum members had bid on it would neither be fair for everyone here nor the sellers (especially our beloved Windstone Editions).
November 25, 2007 at 9:59 pm #639231Very true. We’ve always maintained that what happens on ebay has nothing to do with our relationships on the forum. Ebay is business.

KyrinNope. I have let loose on both Pegasi and Drag0n before when I should not have. I admitted I was wrong and asked for forgiveness. I meant it, though… I didnt continue to project blame as I apologized.

November 26, 2007 at 12:21 am #639234Half the time if I actually see something I want on ebay I dont pay much attention to who’s winning..I’m more concerned with who’s selling and if they have a good rating. I do snipe, BECAUSE I don’t have huge funds to throw at a piece and want to catch a good deal if I can. I’ve never been fortunate enough to bid on the special edition pieces, but I can tell you that if I actually felt I had half a chance of getting one, I’d wait til the last minute and snipe it…not out of rudeness or meanness…but because I want to pay the lowest price possible and I don’t want to “bid it up” and make the price higher than it needs to be. 😕

I agree with Purple. I don’t have the funds to get in a bidding war with someone. When I see an Ebay auction, I figure out exactly how much I can spend and then put in my bid at the end. If an auction goes over my limit then I don’t even bid on it. If I got into bidding wars I’d end up spending way too much money. It’s nothing personal. Most of the time I don’t even check the bidding history. I just check the rating and the comments for the seller.

That’s what I do as well and for the same reasons. Right now I’m not even doing that. We HAVE to have a fence up to protect our dogs. Also to muffle the noise and block the view from our neighbors. I can’t afford the Windstones I want without using a credit card and I’m NOT doing that! 😡 How ever if the right WS came up at the right price I might have to dip into the grocery money and try to snipe 😆

My sentiments on the subject are the same as Purplecat. I don’t have much money and I can’t afford the price to go up on something I really want, so I snipe. Not out of greed but to assure that I will be able to afford it and have a chance at it. I do understand that it is not fair to the seller who is hoping to get a good price for his item.

Yes. this is the same for me as well. and even then, the only auctions I have ever won with a windstone involved were hidden ones.
All the pieces i have were eather gifts, or I traded pyo’s for them(there is a small few that I actualy baught…but the big ticket items and MOST of my collection i got from trading and as gifts.
