I was checking out member Greater Basilisk’s Fantacy work, it was there mentioned that the movie Eragon was lacking in imagination. I’ve not seen it,as it’s not available here yet.
Was it not good ? (I was hoping it would be as I got some great art on a cd from Dell when I placed my last ink order.) The writing was pretty good by the way.January 28, 2007 at 4:40 am #489453January 28, 2007 at 5:45 am #533465Unfortunately I never saw it while it was in theatres, so I can’t give a good synopsis. However there should be an ‘Eragon’ thread around here somewhere that had personal reviews of the film (as well as the book).
From what I’ve heard, the movie’s acting and direction suffered, but the visuals were supposed to be worth it for those keen on the artistry (the landscapes/scenery seemed pretty impressive from the previews I saw).

my friend liked it because he didn’t read the book….and I didn’t find it awful….but it was a little disappointing…
but I read the book first…so I was expecting a bit more…

Thank you, for that;..I’ll dig to find that thread.
I thought the visuals were from good to great.
Also Checked out your site. You’ve got it going on.
I like your drawing tech. I used to draw a lot ; over the years I’ve diminised my fine motor skills through exposure to heavy industrial abuse. I wasn’t as good as you so it’s not a huge loss.January 28, 2007 at 6:44 am #533468Here’s the thread, Art. Like DD said, the acting was pathetic, the dialog even more so, but the scenery was beautiful.

Hollywood or whomever can never out do the imagination of a reader, (unless of course that person has no imagination). I like to read the book later, then it just gets better, but you almost always end thinking, “They really did a shallow job of that.”
An exception, (in my humbly grandious opinion), would be Steven Kings , “Dead Zone”.
The script was word for word with the book.January 28, 2007 at 5:14 pm #533470Art Slinger wrote:Thank you, for that;..I’ll dig to find that thread.

Thank you for that archieve, I only read the first page, but I think that covered it.
Movie Makers hardly ever seem to get anything right. It’s a shame, cause the art work I got for it was very interesting. Sometimes I’ll watch a movie just for good special effects or stunts. But in these days of techno-wizardry , the meat of the story is often overlooked or lost.January 28, 2007 at 8:04 pm #533472I just got the impression that Eragon, like, for example, Narnia, was put on screen to make more millions than the books already were. They were guaranteed a huge audience and it didn’t matter how much effort they put into the movie.
January 28, 2007 at 9:18 pm #533473I think a little more effort went into Narnia though. You can kind of tell that those making it did care about the books.
January 28, 2007 at 9:20 pm #533474As I said in the other thread, Eragon was a pretty standard fantasy movie with some nice imagery but the plot and action was very rushed and confusing, as well as Jeremy Irons being the only one whose acting I enjoyed. But since the book is sub-par fantasy to start with, it’s not terribly surprising.
January 28, 2007 at 11:05 pm #533475I liked Saphira. that was about it. How was that with the horses, Basilisk? thought those helped too to, what, like make 1/3 of the one star?
January 29, 2007 at 6:13 am #533476Right, Aky – the horses. Those were excellent. Brom’s Friesian was beautiful.

Ya, the horse was GORGEOUS but I wasn’t sold on the friesian aspect- the face seemed off, the crimped looking mane, tail, and feather looked like a fresian but the head wasn’t…long enough IMO?
