I was just wondering how many people have read Eragon or have seen the movie or both and their thoughts…?
April 28, 2007 at 10:15 pm #490710April 28, 2007 at 10:43 pm #568577Read the book – it was pretty good but not “oh my god, I have to read the next one now”. Just saw the movie and was pretty disappointed – I thought it was boring and I kept wanting to smack Eragon. But that’s just me – I think some of the members really liked it.
Now, Casino Royale, that was a GOOD movie that I would watch again. Of course, I had to wipe up drool afterwards. π
April 28, 2007 at 11:12 pm #568578I’ve read both Eragon and Eldest, but haven’t seen the movie… I haven’t heard the best things about it, but hey, it has dragons! Still kinda want to see it.
April 28, 2007 at 11:25 pm #568579Personally, I’ve never read the book, but disliked the movie. I found it boring, the CGI not as impressive as I was expecting, and I thought the story really lacked even an iota of originality. But thatβs just my personal opinion. I know there were a lot of forum members who loved the movie.
It has been discussed in numerous threads. Apparently it is pretty popular as well as a little controversial on this forum. Here is just one link to discussion about the movie:

There are a few other threads that mention the book as well. I’d have to search them out…

Ah, yes, that movie was good! I never thought I’d enjoy a James Bond movie but this was the exception. And Daniel Craig wasβ¦. ummβ¦ enjoyable to watch π
April 28, 2007 at 11:30 pm #568580I liked the first book (which was pretty good)and was hooked when I read eldest (the story really picked up there in my opinion). The movie was a sad and faded imitation of a well written book. I’m waiting for the third book…does anyone know when it’s coming out?
April 29, 2007 at 1:13 am #568581I really like the books and threw a fit when I saw the movie. The movie was so far from the actual story line that it really annoyed me.
April 29, 2007 at 1:31 am #568582I’ve never read the book but saw the movie and wanted to walk out on it. Its one of the few movies that I kept checking my watch wishing for it to end. It was just horrible!
April 29, 2007 at 3:06 am #568583I’ve read Eragon and Eldest. Story and plot wise it’s actually pretty good for a guy who was 19 when he wrote it. I could see some improvement bewteen the books and I am looking forward to the third. I haven’t seen the movie but some of my friends say it wasn’t that good.
If you like dragons try E.E. Knight’s “Age of Fire” series. It’s stories done from the dragons point of view. And I thought it was really well done!

I’m with Lokie. The movie was just bad. As for the book, I tried to read the first one, but got bored after half a dozen chapters and never picked it up again. It’s really too clichΓ©, run of the mill – but I think I expect too much after Tolkien. Nobody can match him.
April 29, 2007 at 11:47 am #568585It is hard to out-do Tolkien. π
April 29, 2007 at 1:57 pm #568586I kinda enjoyed the movie, but I would have liked more battles. It was a little slow and then anti-climatic. Never even knew there was a book till the movie came out. It was worth watching, though. It was just not an OMG THAT WAS AWESOME- type movie.

And I agree with foxfeather – E.E. Knights Dragon books are great. After reading them I also got hooked on his Valentine series.

I guess I’d better check out these books. π
April 29, 2007 at 3:56 pm #568589I’ll third the E. E. Knight suggestion- great books! I’m chomping at the bit for the third one. Those that like them, buy ’em- they’re not too expensive, and the only way his publisher will publish his other books are if his sales are good.
I tried reading Eragon and couldn’t make it past 4 or 5 chapters, it was very cliche, poorly written and bordering on the edge of depressing because most of the ideas were stolen from other fantasy novels/stories.
I saw the movie but it was pretty bad. I enjoyed the CGI of Saphira- I’m a nut for good dragon design, but other than that left feeling quite like I had wasted my money. I was also a little disturbed that Saphira seemed to fly like a fighter jet and broke the laws of physics often- anyone else notice that in the ‘flying through the canyon’ scene?
Those are just my opinions though!
