😀 Hiya Ms.Melody,I heard something unusual today about the emus’.I know you raise them and I heard they are not able to walk backwards.Is this true?It was on a “Snapple Fact” on a cap. :bye:

That may be true, I have to practically lift mine if I want her to back up. I think mine is exceptionally dumb, even for an emu. She cannot figure out how to step over a tiny raised edge, like the rim on a wading pool. I’ve seen other emus do that easily.
I’ll have to watch her and see if she ever backs up. She can turn on a dime, so maybe they don’t need to be able to back up.That’s cool.Let me know,I’m curious,thanx 😀

Nope! I haven’t seen her back up. If she heads into a corner she lifts the front of her body straight up vertically and turns around in place! She can make her body into a tall shape like a wine bottle. If she is trying to frighten something ( she loves to spook unsuspecting people and creatures) she turns into a wine bottle and then puffs up her feathers while hissing. Then she looks like a demon Christmas tree.
