Very well said, dragOnfeathers! I totally agree that as each one of us look at our dragon sculptures, we see whatever it is we want to see in them. Personally, most of them take my breath away in just sheer beauty and that so much of their impressiveness for me lies in their dignity, calm, and inner strength without aggressiveness: no teeth and claws out, no blowing fire and smoke. “Males” that wear beautiful jewels and stunning paint,”females” with inner strength and dignity. For me, they project the image of power without aggression, a feeling that says, don’t even let the thought cross your mind to mess with me because I have teeth and claws and can use them if I have to, but I don’t have to prove that to anyone and I’d just as soon not, ok? In essence, well-mannered polite dragons who know the social rules. That applies to both “genders” however they are projected. I see the OW’s as old and wise and full of stories and just waiting for some young dragons to ask them to tell them about the “old days” and give them some good advice from their store of accumulated knowledge and wisdom and to pass on the history of dragondom. They know better than to judge, they just watch, knowing that everything will happen in its own time, that the young will learn in their own way, and that everything will be all right eventually, they did it their way, and now it’s time for the next generation to do it in their way. They also appreciate all the differences they see, the varieties of dragons that come and go, the colors and sculpts and paints, they listen to the squabbles and gossip and complaints, but don’t judge any of it unless they are asked to and then they are fair and wise. I see the oriental suns as the playful ones with the chew toys who don’t know when to stop, like puppies or small children at bedtime begging for just one more game, just one more, I promise! and you know they don’t mean it and it will still mean another major tussle and 1/2 hour before bedtime, but they are so cute and hard to resist and so charming, you give in anyway, each time saying, next time…!
Anyway, those are my projections on some of my sculpts, I’m sure they are not the same for everyone. I don’t name mine, I know others do. I think it’s more important to be easy with each other about how we are with the dragons we own than to set rules about how others have to be with the dragons they own.
DM, it seems like it would have been hard for you to come on the forum and talk about investing a decade of time and money into earning a title that was important to you at the time that perhaps would have been less understood here, as well as your grief over losing your irreplacable ring, and find the debate/defense continuing. Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. I do have an idea of it, my safe was broken into and my late husband’s watches that I was saving for his son were stolen. Not the same, but a small inkling. Your mother’s mother ring can be recreated if you were to choose to do that with the stones, etc. It wouldn’t be the same, but the idea would still be there. If you choose not to do that, you already know your mother is in your heart whether the ring is with you or not, and the love is still there as well.
I’m so sorry and *big hugs*

LOL, and you thought what I said was “well said?” 😉 I think you nailed it!

I wouldn’t stress yourself out even more though by trying to change others opinions. 😉 No one is actually denying that the word “Emperor” is predominantly male. The case in hand is someone’s opinion over what their dragon statue means to themselves. Like someone else said, all that matters is that we appreciate our Windstones for their superb artistry. 😀

Hope you start to feel better in general soon though. Don’t let little things like this compound on top of the bigger things and make everything worse. 😉
