This is what he looks like now, repaired and details restored.
I’ll be painting him later today.
I don’t plan to restore him to his original color, since he was broken, I figure custom color for him would be better. Colors are chosen though, yellows, oranges and red, with gold, copper and bronzes.
Base colors on this repaint. The red is actually a dark orange, but the camera kinda goofed it. Eyes are masked, as is his jewels. Both are red, so when he is done, the colors should look really good.
Comments welcome.

Thank Goodness there are people like you who will do this kind of work, it would be a shame to throw this beautiful piece away! Congrats!

June 27, 2007 at 4:37 am #592589Wow… you are really good at repairs… I think he is going to look great!!
June 27, 2007 at 11:03 am #592590Very nice repairs, can’t wait to see him done.
HUMMMM… maybe I should try to fix the broken toe on my white scratcher. I don’t have the toe but I could always sculpt one. I wonder if I could get some paint to match it since I like his original color.
June 27, 2007 at 2:33 pm #592591Aww, he wasn’t damaged too badly. The emerald emps are hard to come by. I would have restored his original color.
You did a good job re-sculpting!Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com

You did a good job re-sculpting!Yeah, but considering he was broken, his value was already destroyed, and honestly, I never cared much for the emeralds…if he had been a brown or black gold, I would have restored to original.

June 27, 2007 at 10:36 pm #592595Hate to say it but I agree with Nam, I’d have opted to restore rather than repaint, if I were in your shoes. Just because it’s broken doesn’t mean it’s worthless. Several people were offering for this one, for example. I’d imagine that a good percentage of emeralds out there have at least some damage to them, given their age. Still, your color choices sound like good ones. It’ll be interesting to see how it turns out!
Forever seeking: Blackwatch the raffle Old Warrior, Jennifer Miller's pieces, and GB Baby unis!

I agree that he isn’t worthless, but his value for being an emerald emperor went down the moment he was broken into 6 pieces. Sure I could have restored him to original color, that wouldn’t have been hard, however, as I stated before, I don’t like the emerald color scheme. He would not have fit into my collection as an emerald, and I could never afford the $400 to get one otherwise.
I collect the browns. When he is done his colors will be a close cousin, though considerably brighter than my browns, but he will still “go” with them. Whereas restoring him to original would have left him odd man out.
Sure I could have restored him and sold him, but the likelyhood of recovering what I paid for him would be slim, since despite restoration, he was still badly broken, and not valued for as much as he would have been intact. Not to mention that I would then still not have an emperor of my own for my collection.
Trust me, when he is done he will look wonderful, maybe not as good as new, but good enough for me.

Wait, if you don’t like emeralds in the first place, why’d you buy him? Perhaps I am missing a key element here. 😆 Did you buy him broken? I hope you didn’t pay full price if that’s the case. 😯
