My youngest daughter, Aurora Melody, has eczema and we’ve spent a FORTUNE on stuff to put on it. We’ve tried Proecza, Naturalderm, Eucerin cream, hydracortizone, Aloe vera, Shea, Elocon…..and none of them do a whole lot for her. Our main problem is her age, she’s only 5 months old and will break out within an hour and have weeping rashes on her legs, back and elbows. The naturalderm helps for a day at a time if we put it on her whole body 2-3 times a day but if we miss a treatment she relapses (a tiny tub costs $24 and only lasts a week). We are afraid to use the elocon too much because it’s not meant to be applied frequently. Any other suggestions? We’ve run out of ideas and it’s pitiful that she’s learned to scratch before learning to roll over (she can roll from tummy to back but not the other way). Her little hands are always opening and closing in a scratching motion. She must itch horribly but she’s very sweet about it.

Lush is a very nice company and if you don’t have one near you you can always buy on-line. They’re an international company from England, I don’t know if any of our British freinds can tell you anymore about them than I can. But atleast they represent themselves as a very naturally concerned company. I’m severly allergic to “perfumes” and have virtually no problems with any of their products, so that makes me happy, I can be a bit of a girly-girl!! 😀
May 9, 2007 at 7:35 pm #572657have you tried alveeno? its the stuff made from oatmeal. i know a friend of mine uses it. she either has eczema or the other skin ailment that i forget hte name of. she is on perscription meds for her face.
is she having an alergic reaction to anything you are putting on her?
May 9, 2007 at 8:06 pm #572658She had a reaction to the proecza but other than that, we’ve been fortunate. I hadn’t thought to try aveeno yet, we’ll give it a shot. We’ve used that on my son’s poison ivy before.
May 9, 2007 at 8:44 pm #572659In the winter I have to use a shower gel with oatmeal in it or I itch like crazy. Your poor little baby! I can’t imagine what it must feel like. Try stuff with colloidial oatmeal, like Aveeno lotion and soap. Sometimes soap is very drying, so make sure whatever you use to bathe her has it in it too.
May 10, 2007 at 1:21 am #572660When I was little, I had really bad eczema. I actually would scratch myself raw from the itching until I bled, and then I would scratch it even more. I itched more than it hurt. Freaked everyone else out more than me. I had some lotion I used a lot to stop the itch (some anti-steroidal of some sort I think) and a specially ordered soap that had absolutely no fragrances in it. The lotions and soap I had were very expensive (prescription I believe) and I don’t honestly think they make them anymore. I’ve grown out of it (thank goodness!), but I’m sensitive to chemicals and artificial fragrances on my skin (industrial cleaners and kitchen soaps give my hands a rash).
Aveeno is something to try. I tried it at least once when I was little and it was soothing at least. Lush is all natural. I use for some things and love it! I even found a cleanser for my face that works great when all else has failed (anything else was too harsh, or didn’t work). There are stores in some parts of the states (not sure where you are located), but they do ship. There is a cleanser I’ve used that is made with 100% olive oil (olivella). You literally feel squeeky clean after. They have liquid and bar soap, and lotions too. They do have a baby line too that leaves out any added fragrances, just in case. Olivella is NOT the like dumping a bunch of olive oil from the cupboard on yourself and washing 😛 My mom loves it and I use it on my face in the shower with my cleanser!
Here are the sites to look into:

May 10, 2007 at 1:38 am #572661I have had Eczema all my life. I have been able to control it for the most part in my adult life. I use the Aveeno Oatmeal body wash that you can get at Target and most drug Stores for I think it’s like $6 a bottle or something like that. I also found that Yardley of London makes and oatmeal soap (if you will) in a bar form. Keep her as far away from any soap in the house at all. Stress has a LOT to do with break outs also. I know you can’t do anything to relieve the stress of a baby but in my experience that is one of the largest factors.
May 10, 2007 at 1:58 am #572662Well, we’ve put some of the aveeno lotion on her and we’ll see what happens….I don’t know about the stress…she’s sweet natured and easygoing, but she seems to be teething and that would stress me so maybe it will ease up once she passes the teething stage. I hope so.
May 10, 2007 at 2:07 am #572663trust me the uncontrolable itching is causing stress too
