OK So I was wondering if a forum member has the Peacock Lap Dragon up on ebay right now – http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110740129004
If you’d rather not say, I completely understand!! I’m not trying to make anyone feel uncomfortable here. If it is a forum member and you want to keep yourself anonymous but still would PM me I would be greatly obliged and would not reveal your identity to the forum 🙂
The reason that I ask is because this dragon is listed as “New In Box” and “Never Displayed” but in the first picture (actually all of them) you can clearly see dust on the piece, which to me does not scream “new in box”. I sent a message to the seller asking about this, but I would be MUCH more inclined to bid on the piece if it’s a forum member and not just some random ebay seller. There’s always a chance that the seller got photos from some other website and is using them in the auction.
In any case, I was just wondering .. 🙂

Am I crazy? Can anyone else check this out real quick? I’ve seen dusty Windstones, and it looks to me like they cleaned off the dragon but didn’t get in the area behind the neck and in the spiral of the tail to get the dust in there. I could be wrong, I admit, but if this isn’t something that a forum member is selling I think I’ll pass :/ Been decieved by too many ebay sellers 🙁

But it’s a work computer and the screen is pretty old, so who knows.
September 8, 2011 at 9:54 pm #855829I zoomed on the closer pictures and on the tail curl and in the claws that looks like dust to me…
September 8, 2011 at 10:00 pm #855830Looks like dust to me too, always in the same spots. If it was the camera you would think it would be in different areas!

That’s exactly what I thought too, and is why I am concerned that either the seller is misinformed or is being deceitful about the condition.
And Wampus – yes, the peacock coloring is very vivid! In fact the entire statue is lovely and looks in perfect condition. It’s just concerning when someone insists it’s never been taken out of the box but (in my opinion) it clearly has dust in the crevaces and behind the neck.

However, here’s something that could have happened in this case. A friend bought a bg scratcher for me years back from a dealer. When it came, it had dust on it. Turns out, the dealer would bring them to shows and display them… so that’s why it had dust on it. Not sure if that really can be called “new”, but it didn’t bother me.
Not sure how likely it is that my case happened… but who knows. Maybe they bought it from a shop that had it on display but THEY never actually displayed him. That could be called new in box, no?
But if there is in fact dust on him, as it appears, then they shouldn’t be saying their isn’t. *shrug*
September 8, 2011 at 10:24 pm #855836Looks like dust to me too! Did you ask if it was New in a WINDSTONE box? I have acquire items that were never taken out of the box but it wasn’t a Windstone box from the factory and was covered in dust.
September 8, 2011 at 11:58 pm #855841I agree with both of you Kujacker and Tinks! It’s entirely possible that the seller bought this second hand and didn’t realize that it was not actually brand new. But…
But if there is in fact dust on him, as it appears, then they shouldn’t be saying their isn’t. *shrug*
This is exactly what bothers me. If 90% of the people who have responded to this thread also think that it’s dust then it makes me all the more sure that’s exactly what it is. In the seller’s response to me, they said very specifically it was NOT dust. If it’s not dust, then there’s something wrong with the dragon. If it IS dust, then the seller is untrustworthy. Lose/lose 🙁

Why or when is a mystery– but that dragon has dust on it, enough to have been displayed at some point. I see it clearly on the tail, lower parts of the leg, in that hard to dust spot between the wings and head (note: sometimes the surface is rough here and it can look like dust even though it’s not, but in this case it does seem to actually BE dust), and on the head by the gemstone, etc. All really typical places for a lap to gather dust even when gently wiped off.

My art: featherdust.comSeptember 9, 2011 at 12:19 am #855843You know…? Besides seeing dust, to me it appears as if the dragon’s left horn is popping out a bit from the photo. (Or is it me?)

OMG I see it too. Great eye.
September 9, 2011 at 12:26 am #855845Wow PPoD – I don’t see the horn popping out but your comment DID make me see something else – DAMAGE. Straight damage. If you look at the base of the dragon’s left horn you can see a pretty obvious white mark that does NOT disappear in different angles of photos. This is almost certainly chipping or rubbing. So, not only is the dragon dusty and obviously displayed (and thanks for confirming my beliefs as well Jennifer!) but it has damage.
Warning! Warning!

The white gypsum is showing plain as day once you notice it. x.x Ugh, I hope the high bidder isnt a forum member….
September 9, 2011 at 12:55 am #855849I do too Wampus ><
I WANT to believe that the seller is just mistaken.. maybe they are totally unfamiliar with Windstones – I sent them a reply letting them know that they should double check the dust/horn things because I know that Windstone collectors WILL be angry/disappointed if they get something from ebay that is not in the condition as listed. I really want to save them (and the buyer) some hassle if indeed this is the case.. but we'll see.
