I don’t think there are any Spectrals with dichroic eyes.

All spectral eyes are dichroic. They just don’t have a black pupil. 😀

Then I must be thinking of whatever eyes are in my Rising Spectral too…

ETA: Either way, I love those different, multichanging eyes. 🙂

Oh! Okay, I guess that’s why I like them. 😆

I love the eyes. I think its interesting that there are many out there who dont like them in the lap dragons.

The biggest problem with them in the Laps is the way they gather the light: it’s too “disorganized”. The dichroic coating is super-reflective and it bounces light back in several directions. In the Lap, there’s just too much bounce. The eyes have too many focal bright areas. It’s not necessarily a bad effect, but it’s definitely different from what the mind expects an eye to do. And it does make her look quite startled. The Lap sculpt always looks to me like a placid, peaceful dragon. Now she’s a placid dragon who just got goosed. 😉

Dragons like the SK and presumably the OW have a prominent overhanging brow that blocks light from entering the dichroic eyes from above. The result is eyes that gather light only from the sides and bottom and reflect it back. You get an eye with an iris that literally glows. It’s a fantastic effect! 😀 I think that the “shadowing” by the brow ridge may be fairly important in making these eyes look good. The flatter back to the eye may also be having a significant effect, like Nam said. One of my few grumbles with the dichroic eye in the Lap is the distinctly “curved” effect to the light bounce along the edges of the eye. It distorts the pupil if you’re looking at the Lap from any direction but straight into the eye. The problem is most noticeable at the top of the eye, but you can also see it around the sides.

        Anyway. Just me theorizing. 🙂

I love them in ALL the dragons I have–depending on the colors of the eye sockets, apparantly, is what changes their eye colors. Although I don’t have one of the Laps, I know I would prefer those eyes as well. For example, I have the Pearl/Gold Sun and his eyes go from Light Gold to a Deeper Gold, and then I have the Bronze Sun and his eyes start out at a Deep Gold to a Dark Amber to almost a Fiery Red (but not a straight-on red like the Ruby sun Dragon), this is more clear, and then my Twilight Sun Dragon has eyes that go from Gold to Pale Blue, and sometimes looks like he has one Gold eye and one Blue eye. My Burgundy Gold OW has Gold eyes that go into a deep Burgundy color, or sometimes the tops of his eyes look Gold, and the bottom part looks like a Deeper Burgundy. The only thing about the OW is that I have to physically turn him to make his eyes change colors a lot, unlike the orientals, but I think that is because he doesn’t have as deep eye sockets as the orientals. :squeak:

LOL in the photos they do…in real life, they look MUCH better.

They look cool to me in pics, but I’d have to see them in person to make an informed opinion. I think so far they worked least well in the lap though.

…I actually can’t remember seeing any Laps with the dichroic eyes!

I voted “love them in all” because I love the *idea*, I really do — but that doesn’t mean there weren’t times I winced. For example: I really, REALLY love the colors of the “Twilight” dragons… except the reddish/orangey tones of the dichroic eyes in all the pictures. Something about the shades involved just seriously put me off them; at this point even if I had the money I don’t think I’d buy a Twilight unless it was released with different eyes.

I was just curious how many people liked the Dichroic eyes in the Lap Dragons, so thought I’d start a poll…

This is my first poll, so if I should change a category or add one, let me know!
