Have any of you ever received an ebay message by email that used your username instead of your real name?

Got one of those today, and it wasn’t duplicated in my ebay account messages either, which they usually are…

Haven’t ever experienced what you describe, but definitely don’t respond to the email or open any links within the email. Ebay did suffer a breach of their system by hackers a few weeks ago where user-ids & passwords were compromised & Ebay sent out emails suggesting users change the passwords on their accounts from within Ebay. It’s always best to play it safe with any emails because there’s so much malware, spyware & viruses attached.

I don’t really recall but if it’s not showing in your ebay messages, I would mark it as spam or a phishing attempt. I have been getting crazy amounts of e-mails lately claiming they are from paypal saying my account has been frozen or something because of problem and that I have to log in to my account via their link to fix it. They are complete scam messages as my account is just fine so I mark them all as phishing attempts. It’s pretty bad when I get more spam e-mails than real ones. I even get messages saying there was a problem with a purchase I made on Amazon or Itunes and I have never bought anything off Amazon of Itunes so it’s quite frustrating.

I Never Never Ever click on links within emails such as those. If it IS real, you would be able to independently access the actual internet site you subscribe to, and log in your account to see if there is anything to it.
Phishing scams are way up now for some reason – I received two of those bogus PayPal ones in the past few days also. As for eBay, if it IS real then most likely you would have a duplicate in your true account.
I delete whenever I’m insure. You can also contact the company’s (Bank, PayPal, eBay, etc) Customer Service Dept to see what they say – if it’s a true concern or email sent out.

Be very careful about ANY emails you receive, even from people or accounts you know, if they look ‘off’ or out of character at all. Verify them independently if you ARE suspect.
            Stay safe!

Put your cursor over the From address and the true addy will pop up, telling you where it really comes from – unless them bad guys were really thorough and created their address accordingly or you right click on it and select Properties.

I did call ebay but I wasn’t too happy with their reply. The guy said that it “probably” was nothing, but he had me forward it to their spoof department because the domain name (@reply.ebay.ca) was unfamiliar.

I asked if I would get confirmation on whether it was a fraudulent email or not, but apparently not. Ebay will only send a warning email to all their customers if they detect a widespread issue…. very reassuring…Not! 😐

In the meantime, I did change my password… again!

I’m seriously thinking of just closing my account, maybe even my paypal account, it’s just not worth the headaches.
