Quite, especially with USPS, where a package can reach New York and then disappear off the face of the earth for several weeks, then finally get delivered while the tracking number still has it stuck in customs. 😡
January 13, 2010 at 5:34 pm #796207OK since we are on the topic of ebay and paypal and how lame they both can be, please pardon me, I must vent:
A few months ago (October-ish) I didn’t have a steady job, had sporadic income (working for a temp agency…not the best one at finding me a job-thats a different story) ANYWAY, I needed some money, so I sold off some of my My Little Ponies. If you dont know, there’s a HUGE community of “pony people”. I used to collect them, I had a whole room full-literally.
Well anyway, in favor of Windstones and my lack of income, I sold off some of my MOC (Mint On Card-Ponies from the 80’s and 90’s never opened in their original packaging) to some….Person 😡 on ebay.
I was thrilled to sell not one not two but THREE ponies. I had 2 listed and the person asked if I had any more to sell. I looked through my collection and found another MOC pony I could bear to part with. I listed it on ebay and the same person bought it. The total was approx $155 US. I sold it to a person in Germany. They seemed nice (I think it was a husband and wife sharing an ID?)and paid for the extra cost of shipping ($20) ponies in a box out of the country.
As most ask for, the cheapest shipping option was still $20. I had my money, and I went down to my local post office branch (where the lady knows me by name) and told her what I was mailing, ranted about ponies moment, showed her one of them, taped up the box and mailed it off.
Well 2 weeks later, the lady (schneezauber75) said she never got the box. I assured her it was mailed, and sent her a photo of the receipt. She told me “Yea, but how do I know that’s not some OTHER box you sent to Germany?” I told her I’ve got feedback, and that I don’t sell often, but I buy often, and TRUST ME, there’s no other packages going to Germany.
Well she files a complaint against me on paypal claiming she never received her item. Paypal only accepts tracking numbers as proof of shipment. NOTHING ELSE. No receipts, no customs forms, nothing but tracking numbers.
I called Paypal and explained I didn’t think it was fair that I had to prove I shipped it, but she didn’t have to prove that she did or didn’t receive the item.Of course, paypal and ebay have all the love and protection in the world for buyers, but sellers get screwed. So they gave her the $155 back, and I am out the ponies and the money. And I got turned over to a collection agency!!! I have never lost a package or had a package I bought get lost. I KNOW for a fact I was scammed! 😡 😡
What makes me mad is that they ALLOW this to happen! Who’s to stop anyone from buying something from out of the country, jewlelry, electronics, expensive collectables, and request the cheapest shipping method and when you get the item, claim you never got it, and get your money back, and have a free item!
They are ALLOWING MAIL FRAUD to happen and it just steams me up so bad to even think of it! Even in the US, with something cheap, or something light weight that gets shipped via US mail. “Whoops, never got it. I want my money back.” I am never selling anything without a tracking number ever again. Even if it costs $80 to ship a plastic pony to you in another country, I’ve learned my lesson.
ps-I have nothing against folks from other countries, just that individual. I feel so helpless too, like there’s nothing I can do. I wanted to call the police on them, but I dont know if it would do any good. They basically stole the ponies from me! Grrr. 😡
/end rant
January 13, 2010 at 6:16 pm #796208that is terrible!! and i do not understand it eather as well… i remember reading one account some where of some one shipping over seas with a tracking number, and the box was in customs..the buyer claims they never got thier package, the seller calls and is told it is in customs and has not been picked up. the seller explains this but the buyer files a charge any way and payal refunded him………because the tracking shows proof it was not “delivered”….
i just do not understand it.

She does. It’s quite scary.
I’m really sorry you got scammed, Wolfen. I’ve learned now too that it’s wise to put a tracking number on freaking every package you mail.January 14, 2010 at 2:31 pm #796210So … let me get this straight. I put delivery confirmation on everything I ship (and I have been assured by a Paypal employee when I contacted them a year or so ago that the customs number counts for international packages?). I keep track of this and I will say about 80% of the time on DOMESTIC packages they never even scan the damn thing so I have no proof of delivery. However I always have proof I shipped the item. So when Paypal settles disputes.. they base it on if the package was delivered?! As if I have ANY control over what the post office does, beyond going out of my way to purchase the extra service? This is… not good. Especially given that the ‘tracking’ on international packages never updates after the initial scan. I never have proof these are delivered beyond the thank you emails I get from customers. This is a bit scary. I haven’t ever had a problem, but…
Has anyone had any experience with Google Checkout? It’s a service like Paypal.

My art: featherdust.comJanuary 14, 2010 at 5:04 pm #796211Well, thankfully the first auction situation I talked about has come to a happy end; the buyer got their item on Tuesday and immediately left feedback. A few minutes after the feedback appeard my money was released in Paypal.
Just sold another ‘big’ ($200) ticket item last night and the smae hold is on the payment. This time I am REALLY nervous; the bidder has ZERO feedback (I always forget to limit that on the auctions! Grr!) but at least has a confirmed address in paypal. I will be shipping today and will require a signature upon delivery; might add some time on to delivery but I want to make sure that I am covered! I sent a message through ebay to the buyer in regards to that but haven’t gotten a reply which makes me nervous.
Urg.
January 14, 2010 at 5:54 pm #796212Well, other then they’re ridiculous final value fees I haven’t been having problems. Shaun has though, all his auctions are getting a 21 days hold on the payments unless he gets positive feedback from the buyer he sold the item to, then he gets the money faster. It’s a real pain!

January 18, 2010 at 7:15 am #796214Well, my two little tracker-numerless packages arrived at their destinations last week, so I’m glad. I hope this transaction doesn’t cause you any worry, Crimson.

Glad they finally got there–what a relief! 🙂
January 19, 2010 at 7:32 am #796216For sure! Thanks, Adaneth.
January 20, 2010 at 5:51 pm #796217Well my big sale arrived yesterday & was signed for. The buyer has been sketchy about communication & hasn’t left feedback yet so I called Paypal to see if I could get the hold released. Sure enough, the phone rep checked the tracking number, saw that it was signed for & delivered and released my money. She also said that she was going to have a higher up review my account to stop the holds on any future sales since I really do have a long history with Paypal. Hopefully that will work.
