Please help out if you can.
At 8:30 p.m. tomorrow, nearly 1,000 cities around the world will participate in Earth Hour. Across our city, home and offices will turn off the lights, a gesture that underscores our commitment to promote conservation – an action that is meaningful to us all. Like last year, my little family (there’s only 2 of us, well plus 2 cats) will participate in this event.
We respect the environment and we pay attention to our carbon emissions. Please view the video message of Bill Clinton
http://www.cdprojec t.net/carbon- disclosure- leadership- index.asp and join the One Million Acts of Green Challenge which
is another way to get involved. Please sign up http://green. cbc.ca/SignUp. aspxThanks all

(I think it is cool and necessary)March 27, 2009 at 8:58 pm #758287We’re in again this year!
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmMarch 27, 2009 at 10:00 pm #758288I’m doing it! We’re gonna unplug any non-essential electric using items (the fishtank filter will need to stay on, to the relief of my fish 😉 ).
Wouldn’t it be cool if we could convince people to do this once a month or even once a week? Just stop, slow down for a single hour, unplug and read a book… or do some drawing, try learning how to crochet, etc. 🙂

My art: featherdust.comMarch 27, 2009 at 10:03 pm #758289I want to do it tomorrow. A lot of our lights are out at that time anyway since my son goes to bed at 8:30 p.m.

well I would need a candle with a big ass flame to read a book over here XD
March 28, 2009 at 4:07 pm #758291I’m not sure if I will be able to get my family to participate or not, but I’ll be turning off whatever isn’t being used. Hopefully, I’ll be done with sewing by that point tonight, or opt for an hour break. 🙂

I agree people should do it and get more involved….what is an hour really? It doesn’t hurt. I’ll even turn off the main braker. (Not sure if I spelled that right)
Good reflection time for me. 🙂
I could do it once a day. Maybe I’ll start that. If every one would get in on this just think how much energy would be saved. 😮March 29, 2009 at 2:18 pm #758293We kind of forgot about it… we were watching a movie in the basement. 😈 When Chinook went to bed, she reminded us and turned off all the lights in the house. The only thing on was the TV. 😀

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmMarch 29, 2009 at 2:43 pm #758294We turned out all the lights at 8:30 and shortly thereafter went to bed. Gavin’s normal bed time is 8:30 anyway. Gavin thought it was fun moving around by flashlights for the few minutes after 8:30 he was still up. The flashlights we used were crank flashlights (you generate the power) that my parents had given us for Christmas so no need to worry about battery disposal.
March 29, 2009 at 10:57 pm #758295I would take part in it… except that events like this have been shown to have very little to no effect on the actual energy consumption of the planet.
Legislation is needed, not stuff like this to conserve energy.
A voter-driven crackdown on things like fuel emissions, car MPG standards, and a full-scale boycott on OPEC products is more likely to see results. Or, even better. Start investing in some energy sources that are self-renewing, and breedable. Like nuclear power.
March 30, 2009 at 12:40 am #758296My family did it, for the gesture if nothing else. Even my brother turned off his electric guitar with minimal sighing (a small miracle). We sat around some candles and threw fire-popped popcorn at each other 😉
March 30, 2009 at 4:02 pm #758297Too true– but you have to admit, awareness is the first step to get voter-driven legislation to pass.
Though it may not actually do much in the long run for energy conservation during the times they were turned off, I am willing to bet that a few people noticed this sort of thing!
