Most Californians do not know how to react either, they get scared it is the big one or just stand around. Both of which are wrong, I laugh at the first, a little. Lived most of my life in California, biggest one being the 1989 quake. My co-worker admitted she was afraid of quakes. Nut she held it together for the keys we were watching at after school program.
Anything less then a 4.0 is just a large truck to me.
I always hope no one is hurt and sorry when damage happens. I was lucky in the 1989 quake only damage was from things “walking” off the shelves on a wall parallel to the quake so it rolled back and forth, poor cat scared out of her mind and hid under bed, was scared for weeks on aftershocks and whenever a large truck came by.
Hang in their all.August 26, 2011 at 6:49 pm #854439I’ve slept thru earthquakes in the past lol.
How do windstones fair in earthquakes? I’m really curious because I’m pretty sure we’ll be moving to California in the relatively near future. I already have to worry about smuggling my ferrets in and finding “ferret friendly” vets/places… I don’t want to have to worry about the windstones as well. Suppose they could forever be in their boxes I guess.
I really really dislike California, but I’d rather suffer in cool weather year round instead of suffer in smoldering heat.August 26, 2011 at 7:28 pm #854440I’m freaking out a little because of this hurricane coming ><

I have never experienced an earthquake or a hurricane but they must be awfully scary. Please be safe all you east coast people with Hurricane Irene approaching…
August 26, 2011 at 8:28 pm #854451At the moment it is beautiful here in Maryland but people have been mobbing the grocery stores and gas stations all day. We will see what happens tomorrow!
August 27, 2011 at 12:28 am #854462You never know what a storm will do . Hopefully it won’t be as bad as they fear . Hugs to anyone on the East Coast .
August 27, 2011 at 2:52 pm #854486Hurricane Irene’s already hitting us in NC right now. When it’s a cat 1, like this, is just a lot of wind and rain, no worse that a bad storm. We had a lot worse in FLorida, and even they weren’t too bad.

August 27, 2011 at 5:10 pm #854493Pretty calm here is Rhode Island for the moment. what gets me is everythime we have a storm you can find mild or bread in any store. luckily I’m not one of the ones on the coast that has to evacuate. I’m on the woonasquatucket river and hopefully that wont get to high. my kids are freaking out….
August 27, 2011 at 6:55 pm #854501I heard there are people evacuating because of the hurricane? Hope everyone will be safe.
August 28, 2011 at 3:58 pm #854525How is everyone doing out there?
We’ve had no power for a few hours now and my cellphone is running out of juice so I probably won’t be on for a while unless the power comes back on.
We are getting POUNDED by the hurricane right now. I just made it to work and the power is even out at Home Depot. We have back up generators, but no computers or automatic flushing toilets…. ew. We’re all sitting around eating sandwiches at the moment. ^_^
We have had a few trees come down. SO far nothing really serious, but the real storm will be hitting us in a few more hours.

One tree branch down so far, but it didn’t hit anything (kind of hoping something comes down over my brother’s car… it would solve SO many problems/arguments…).
Friend of mine and former coworker is down in the Catskills and he almost left his house. Part of his yard was gobbled up by the creek that is behind and below him. It’s started to come down again, but he’s still keeping an eye on it. He posted pictures before they were evacuating, but it went down over the hour after he took them, so they are just monitoring for now. Many roads by him are washed out/gone. They got well over 10 inches of rain. His wife’s uncle lost the side of his house and her cousin? lost a guest house and had to leave as well. Lots of damage down there south of me. I know the Gilboa Dam south of me that has the flood sirens going because they lost their communication with the monitoring equipment (it’s a very old dam and people watch that one like a hawk). I’ve seen a LOT of flooding down in Delaware/Ulster/Greene counties and communities I know pretty well from college that have things like buildings flooding out completely/destroyed from flooding. I think NYC got off pretty easy compared to that area.
In the Berkshires (near exit 2, Lee, of the MASSPike), the dam in Sherwood Forest (Beckett, MA) broke.
August 28, 2011 at 7:07 pm #8545380.o SO that dam did break? I was more worried about ours breaking because I’m just within a few miles, but I didn’t hear that one broke.

Even I thought some of the reports were a little funny. There was this town spread panic and they were getting on site reactions to the quake in my town, I laughd SO HARD when one person commented like Dane Cook “I was in my kitchen, wasking a dish, and I felt it so I came out!” with this face of utter shock and disbelief… I think that’s what made it so funny! LMAO!
>_< We really are like a bunch of babies with earthquakes I guess, but they just DON'T HAPPEN around here so it was just so weird! I guess it is like when people in lower parts California freak out over getting snow. It's so lovely and majestic in Cali, but here when we get like 7 feet and we're cursing our whole ride to work! (well at least I am) LOL!
In other news, Shaun just called me from my house and apparently we blew a transformer in our area and our power is out and may not come back on for at least 24 hours 0.o
Good thing my fridge is empty… even if I wanted to keep everything from spoiling, I couldn't cook anything anyway. I leave work in about another hour and a half, but it seems like it has calmed down A LOT so I guess other then the power out, we came out unharmed so that's good news.Got a busted Windstone?
