I like your “locked” photo, Snap! π
May 22, 2008 at 8:57 pm #706228Me too that was great!

On the few occasions when I encounter a seriously badly written web site and have to click “View this page in IE”, it feels like getting out of my car and into a wheelbarrow and trying to figure out how to make it go.
I didn’t know about the hosts file. That’s really cool stuff. Seems like an open invitation to anyone writing a malicious script, but I guess that’s what anti-virus software is for.

Some websites read horribly in Firefox and some have flaws around login. Poor coding. π Windstone luckily works fine on Firefox! π
May 23, 2008 at 12:42 am #706231AnonymousMany viruses will actually overwrite the hosts file with the locations to your anti-virus update sites, so you can’t connect to them.

Because Firefox likes to freeze and I have to do a Force Quit. So I’m using Safari.
Hey, as long as you’re not using IE you’re good in my book! πfire fox needs a better logo. One drawn by vantid would be nice.
May 23, 2008 at 3:32 am #706233Firefox needs to stop forcing updates that completely erase all evidence of your bookmarks :x. If it did that, I’d be fine if its logo was a steaming pile of poo. (though if Vandid could make it pretty or something….)
May 23, 2008 at 5:58 am #706234I like Melody’s idea. Anybody know how to suggest that to Firefox?

That’s weird. I’ve still got bookmarks in Mozilla Firefox that I made in Netscape back in the ’90s. I don’t remember if I had to do anything special for the change from Netscape to Firefox, but I’ve certainly not done anything since and I’ve had numerous upgrades without losing any bookmarks.
Really, you shouldn’t be losing bookmarks during an upgrade. I suggest you check out this Firefox support page on the subject of Losing Bookmarks to see if it helps.

Thanks, Dave. I’ll see if I can get any ideas from that place. It’s happened to me several times over the last year (once to my husband on his own computer), and I’ve never been able to find a satisfactory reason for why it’s happening. This last time, I had done absolutely nothing. My computer was off for a day, and when I turned it back on & started up Firefox, my bookmarks were gone and my homepage was reset. Something’s probably corrupt somewhere and I don’t have a clue what… and I don’t think to backup my bookmarks often enough, apparently (the last time was 3 months ago ). Blah.
May 23, 2008 at 4:33 pm #706237Nammmmmmifer again? See, I’d change yours to Snappeas, but then you’d do something terrible in retaliation, naturally, since I only have limited powers.

was 3 months ago ). Blah.Since I switch back and forth between three computers I added the Foxmarks application. It automatically saves and synchronizes any new bookmarks online and I can update the other computers from there.
