Yoshii is partial to turnip greens. She also loves squash, which my son keeps getting mixed up and calling smush… We tried giving her a tidbit of apple but she wasn’t thrilled. We went to a reptile pet show being held locally tonight and Yoshii won the most talented prize….she was the only reptile that was brought other than snakes. She kept putting her paws up to the glass and scratching with one foot…her signal for, “C’mon, pick me up!!”. Two snakes made jailbreaks from their carrier containers, but were luckily caught. One 8 foot south american snake started opening its mouth at people, which the owner said it never did before…then threw up a half digested rat….which all of the children thought was awesome. Ew. Donovan (my 5 year old) gave a small speech on why Yoshii was the neatest pet and answered some questions about her before a toad showed up underneath one of the picnic tables and all pandemonium broke out as a small army of 5-10 year olds went dashing off to catch it…sigh….I’m tired. Donovan and Yoshii won a $10 gift certificate to the local petstore where he is hoping to get Yoshii a bunk bed to match his own…I tried to explain that she doesn’t need a bunk bed like his but he wont be convinced…
September 14, 2007 at 2:54 am #614785Grats on the new addition to the family! Sounds the rep show was fun.
The first reptile I had was a snake that I brought home from the pet store. Mom was really not happy with that. She let me keep it though, as long as it stayed in my room. She ventured into my room later to take a look at it in the little aquarium I had. She asked where it was, and I told her it was sleeping under the sand. She seemed okay with that and went away. No way was I going to tell her that snake had already escaped and was roaming around the house somewhere. Never did find the snake.
September 14, 2007 at 2:56 am #614786😯 😯 😯 she would’ve had a heart attack! Did she ever ask about the snake again?
September 14, 2007 at 3:06 am #614787We would probably have had to move out of the house then and there if she’d known it had escaped. 😀 I think I eventually said it died or I got rid of it.
September 14, 2007 at 3:08 am #614788hehe… 😆

Poor snake was probably stressed to all hells! LoL
Yoshii is SO adorable! I see you’be been tearing up the greens, that is really good! the little ones seem to have trouble with bigger leaves. You should get her something to climb on, they love to have variation in tempurature, so being able to get up closer to the heat is a plus….I’ll take some pics of our little guys and post….their cage is kind of messy….today is cleaning day LoL

The kids and the geckos, geckos on top.
The kids have graduated to sand (a bit early) and usualy sleep at the very top of the log. There is a heat pad under the back left coner of the cage which is about 5″ x 6″. The lamp on top in the wire caging is a ceramic heat bulb that keeps the tank at about 95-110 degrees F depending on how hot the room itself is. They also have a UVB long bulb across the back. The wood is standard petstore grapevine which the dragons love to climb on. If you get a big one like we have, you can also use it when they get bigger.
They get fed crickets every day, water changed daily and we keep a steady suply of meal worms in the purple dish, and put vegies on top of the worms (which have been all eaten and need to be refilled../sigh). (the crickets and worms will also eat the vegies and thus “gut load” themsleves, becoming a bit more healthy snack)
September 14, 2007 at 6:22 pm #614790Yoshii is seriously adorable! Really, really cute! Congrats!

I always hated feeding the water dragons crickets because sometimes the crickets would escape and I would hear them around the house. Good luck in your search.
I kept a water dragon in college. For some mysterious reason, Housing put me, a Bio Sci student, with a roomie who was deathly afraid of animals in general and bugs in particular. She did not care for having a lizard in the room, but I kept them behind a curtain and she was (barely) OK with that. However . . . one day my roomie went to her closet for a sweater. When she pulled one out, there was a very large cricket clinging to the front. According to the gal across the hall, my roommate went completely ballistic, threw the sweater, grabbed her bookbag, and shot down the hall at high volume. (“EEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeee!!”) She didn’t come home until midnight, when the main library closed.
I still feel guilty for that one. I mean, it wasn’t as if I’d planned it . . . . 😕
Haha that is funny. How long did she live with you after that incident? And purple, Yoshii is way cute. Nirvana, I love the colors on Littleboy
September 19, 2007 at 2:50 pm #614794Oh wow! Fatman has an awesome orangey color! Yoshii is brown most of the time, she can go very dark, almost black when she’s unhappy. Her head is yellow when she’s excited and when she’s being fed though. Are your beardies attached more to certain people? Yoshii has attached herself to me it seems. We got her some cool driftwood at the petstore with the prize certificate that Donovan won with her. Right now Donovan loves to pet her and feed her but is worried she’ll run up his arm if he holds her (she really likes to roam all over you when you’re holding her, tasting everything). She curled up on me the other night and fell asleep, she’s a super cool pet. Oh, she LOVES yellow squash too. We’re wanting to get a second beardie once we have the bigger tank setup. Well, here’s a couple pics from the other night.
September 19, 2007 at 3:02 pm #614795She clings to my finger when we get her out of the tank, she’s soooo little right now! My son and I were watching Holes the other day and recognized that beardies played the dreaded “yellow spotted lizards”!
September 19, 2007 at 7:31 pm #614796She is adorable! 😆
September 19, 2007 at 9:19 pm #614797Aw, cute pics.
