We have a bearded Dragon…his name is Monster, I’m not really sure what I can tell you about him, I guess if you or someone in your family handels him or her all the time they are very friendly, Monster eats lettuce which is rinsed down with water becasue they don’t really drink so we make sure that he gets some water at least a couple times a day, he likes to eat dry food which we get at the pet store and veggies which we cut up into small pieces, he tends to go for the brighter colors tho like the red peppers most of the time. We also get him live crickets a couple of times a month (as a treat and we shale this protein powder on top of them), he seems to really like them probably becasue they move in his tank and he like to chase them.
They like heat and it does need to be hot in their tank…so we have a thermomiter and a special heat lamp that is only on during the day. We also got him a hammock which he loves to sleep in…( if you would like to see his digs I can post some pics just let me know)
Other than that he gets along with our two turtles, he hangs out with them all the time when we let him out of the tank…I personally think that he just catches a free ride on their backs aroung the house.
he like to climb and hide when we let him out of the tank too. He climbs on on canvas pictures…our fake trees..couches etc. He can jump really hight so make sure that you ahve a mesh metal lid on top of the tank or he’ll jump right out. He alos like to hide under clothes which are lying on the ground.
If you have any questions let me know and hopefully i’ll be able to answer them…other than that theya re really cute πŸ˜† and theya re great pets. πŸ˜€

Nirvana, I loved the first link! It’s linked to a site I’d been getting alot of my other info from! The pics of yours are really cool too, all of the links were really helpful, thanks a ton! I’m wanting to build our own “dragon habitat” as a homeschool project with my son, so it may be a while til we purchase our actual “dragon”. It’ll take a while to get it done right. I figure it will end up cheaper than flat out buying and we’ll end up getting even more education as we go…we’ll have to learn what kind of environmental conditions beardies prefer and make our habitat accordingly. Do beardies travel safely by mail? I’m considering perhaps getting two so they can socialize some together…perhaps breed..I don’t know if I wanna go there yet though…I do know that I’m not buying from our local petstore though…the poor beardies there look pitiful and arent being fed right at all. When I first started considering a bearded dragon I went to the pet store to see them and handle one and ask questions…he gave me alot of misinformation. I was told that they only needed mealworms and nothing else to eat, except a pinkmouse on occasion. πŸ˜• Plus he had his baby beardies in crushed walnut bedding, which I’ve read is a big no-no…I’ll look and see if there’s a rescue program here locally that might have bearded dragons. Oh, one thing I hadn’t found yet, what kind of lifespan do they have?

Beardies do well in groups, you can keep many of them together, or alone, but you better have the righs space for them LoL A 10 gallon terrarium should be sufficient untill their heads get to be about an inch across at the back, for 2-3 lizzards, after that you’ll have to upgrade. When you get to the point of using sand, I definately recomend REptilite, it is made from seashells, so is calcium based, but will not get impacted in their stomachs like other brands (Boneaide, reptisand…) Here is a good link for it, this place is usualy pretty good on pricing and there are lots of different natural colors to choose from.

I have not heard of any problems in overnight mailing beardies, but be sure of your dealer, and speak with them many times over the phone to get a feel for them. As a new owner, you should make an obligatory visit to the vet, just to get your new dragon checked out (be sure to have a fresh stool sample to give him/her so they can look for any sign of worms!) If you get 2 at the same time, you save some hastle as you should quarantine any new dragons you bring in.

LoL Miss Melody’s dragons are SOOO fat!

Whatever age you get, try to get them started on veggies asap, it adds so many more nutrients to their diet!

Crested geckos are awesome! They’re like tree frogs in lizzard form! LoL

We printed off the care info from your first link and I’m gonna be re-reading it with my son so he can learn too. He’s really excited. I’m wanting to get at least one red gold so my son can name him Mushu. 8)

I have always wanted a bearded dragon. I have owned Iguanas and Water dragons. They didn’t live to be very big tho. I always hated feeding the water dragons crickets because sometimes the crickets would escape and I would hear them around the house. Good luck in your search.

Internet’s been down 😑 but yesterday we went up to richmond and saw this little girl! Her name is Yoshii (cheesy, I know…) and she is awesome! She’s alot more social than I expected, she looooves being held and seems to like me in particular. Right now she’s in a 10 gallon tank until we get her reptile paradise built. I’m wanting to get a red-gold male to keep her company. She loves sleeping on my finger too.

I kept a water dragon in college. For some mysterious reason, Housing put me, a Bio Sci student, with a roomie who was deathly afraid of animals in general and bugs in particular. She did not care for having a lizard in the room, but I kept them behind a curtain and she was (barely) OK with that. However . . . one day my roomie went to her closet for a sweater. When she pulled one out, there was a very large cricket clinging to the front. According to the gal across the hall, my roommate went completely ballistic, threw the sweater, grabbed her bookbag, and shot down the hall at high volume. (“EEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeee!!”) She didn’t come home until midnight, when the main library closed.

                  I still feel guilty for that one. I mean, it wasn’t as if I’d planned it . . . . πŸ˜•

Eep, it’s not iceberg lettuce is it? Even romaine isn’t that good for them, but iceberg lettuce is not good at all because it contains no real nutrition. Dark leafy greens such as kale are great! πŸ™‚
