His name is Gunji.
(His name isn’t “Gun”-ji. It’s a deep U. Almost more like “Goonji” but more U than O). Japanese word.
10 weeks old.So cute, and I love the name. My buff/sandy colored kitten is named Ginji

November 18, 2011 at 6:15 pm #863022I have a corgi too  She is as friendly as can be, BUT she is hard headed in the extreme! She likes to chase things (the neighbors chickens in particular) but in general corgi’s are cowards when confronted. Had a stray terrier puppy (that stayed with us a few days) that kicked her butt when she tried to be dominate dog over him lol. She did fine with my ferret before he died of old age, and fine with my mom’s cat. They can have a touch of food aggression because they are piggys, so deal with this early! They seem to like to run around the house like maniacs too…
Congrats on getting a new pup! You can’t get a whole lot cuter than a baby corgi 😉 And as long as you keep up to date on shots I wouldn’t fret too awful much. HUGS
She couldn’t be more hardheaded than my 3 year old chow. He was show ring train before I got him when he was 1 1/2 and had just left the dog show world. I got him from the same breeder I got my beloved Tristen from but personality wise they are as different as night and day. He loves to be around people and getting a lot of attention but he is deaf as a dornail when it comes to hearing the word NO.

Sounds like two teenaged boys I know (who shall remain nameless)…

November 19, 2011 at 5:31 pm #863105Thanks everyone!
He’s doing well. Getting along with everyone… well except my dad’s fat cat. He’s the only animal that has given the puppy an angry “welcome”. So Gunji tries to stay away from him as much as possible (but of course the cat is always staring him down, so it’s hard to avoid him). He’s already fine with my cat (day one) and he’s unsure about the ferrets, but not totally afraid. He doesn’t like when they get close to him, but otherwise he just sits and watches them.He got us “lock out” of the house this morning >__> I took him out back and he went over to the side yard. I got distracted by the tons of cigarette butts in the yard! My dad and I do not smoke, so wth? As I was picking them up, Gunji slid under the side fence into the front yard. It’s impossible to get into our backyard without two hands (climbing and jumping), and the fence has a lock on it. Eventually I got him to go back under the fence by tossing rocks into the yard to catch his interest. I blocked the space off with rocks and jumped on back.
So cute, and I love the name. My buff/sandy colored kitten is named Ginji
Ginji like Getbackers Ginji? He seems to be the most popular Ginji. My brother did dub work for that series.

Yup, lol. When I brought the kitten home, he was a feral and afraid of everything, a real scaredy cat like how Ginji gets around Akabane. Thus the scaredy kitten became Ginji, and it fit the theme because my cats all have Japanese/anime names (Riku and Toshi). I was originally just fostering him, should have known when I gave him an anime name he’d be mine forever :p
November 19, 2011 at 7:15 pm #863124I had a ferret named Riku :>
I never saw getbackers. Just didn’t have an interest in it. I think I might have seen a few scenes and such, but that’s it. Wasn’t there a guy that used wires in bells to kill? Something with an F? I do have an import game with Ban in it (and you can use Ginji as a support character).November 19, 2011 at 7:16 pm #863125SQEEEE! I love corgi pups, cute name too! Have fun with your new little baby 😆
November 22, 2011 at 9:27 pm #863386I’d agree that parvo is a much bigger concern than distemper, but you’re right better safe than sorry. Around here, they usually advise 16 weeks, but maybe the high humidity on thop of the heat can extend bugs’ shelf life?
I’ve known of several corgis that weren’t good around other dogs and strange people- they’re of a group that was intended to watch/guard as well as herd. Maybe of you could get him into a puppy class/ supervised socialization group, to help prevent his ‘keepaway’ from going into overdrive? Legitimate groups will require proof of vaccination before they allow anyone to join.
Herding breeds in general tend to be good with members of their family, but they will tend to want to bunch and/or drive those they view as lower on the totem pole. He should end up good with your ferrets, but I wouldn’t leave him alone with them until he’s older and more stable. They are breeds that want their people to be with them all the time, and that want their people to be happy with them- with the intelligence to back it up. I’ve had Australian shephers all my life, and scary-smart and living to please has pretty much defined them. They do need a job to do to occupy their minds and burn energy, though- along with strong guard instincts. We had English mastiffs for many years also, wanted to be with you and to have you happy with them, but rather the opposite of intelligent lol. Most were less ‘guard’ than the Aussies too. My husband had left his Siberian husky (one of the ‘not reseached’ purchases I think) with family members when he moved here, before I met him. He insisted on getting the dog, and it has been all the problem you’ve pointed out. Not a breed to listen or be too concerned with your happiness, which bugs me too. On top of that, high prey drive- has killed 1 of our cats, injured a couple others, and almost killed a hen. He just insists she’s ‘curious’ or that it’s the other animals fault (even the other dogs, which weren’t around), or ours. 🙁 -
