With the recent legislation being pushed in some cities and counties (and some even statewide) looking for Mandatory spay neuter laws, here’s an article that offers some food for thought.

Some parts of that are scary and other parts are down right terrifying. Little by little, the gov’t is quietly infiltrating our lives and eroding our freedoms. “1984” is coming…

Oh my…..I agree something needs to be done about the tide of neglected, homeless animals…the overpopulation of dogs and cats in certain areas….but to take it to that extreme will most certainly lead to “black market pets….” and a worsening condition for future animals. What we really need is more responsible people, actually caring about the situation and doing something about it. That article was very scary in several ways. 😯

Education is far more effective than legislation. It always has been and always will be.

Oprah had the right idea with her puppy mill show, which opened a lot of eyes and reached millions of people.

              All without a law.

That is way scary, but it is happening little by little. PETA, for example…I’ve read and watched some things aboiut them…they are crazy, hypocritical and support terrorist tactics to get their way. 😯

Yup! I didn’t know they were so crazy when I first heard about them. People need to be educated about them, for sure.

I agree that educating people will help, but it will only reach the law-abiding and the people with a conscience. All of the education in the world won’t change the people that are in it for the money and don’t care one bit about the animals. Too bad these groups want to pass laws that punish the good breeders, as well as the bad ones.

The story about the breeders of the Irish Setters sounded like something that would happen in another country, not the good old US of A.

The ones that don’t care and are just in it for the money will probably not be affected much by the laws. They would be the hypothetical illegal breeders selling illegal puppies for a grand or more 20 years from now.

You’re right. There will always be the illegal (by their practices) and unethical breeders. The laws should be pointed at them (whether they work or not is another story), not the population at large. As long as my dogs/cats/birds/whatever are well taken care of, I don’t think the gov’t has a right to tell me how many I can have.
