My sister’s place of business and the hit and run happened outside their office. Her co-worker Rick, ran to save the dog from being hit multiple times and actually hauled her to the vet’s…oh well go visit the site, read the story and if you cannot help, then please spread the word to those who might…

I am going to visit with Honey to see if she would like to come home with us…if she can take the other 3 dogs, 5 cats, 2 fish, 20 horses & all the guineas…LOL! Might be asking a lot from her, but we shall see.

    Aww man poor doggie! 😥

I think that man is a saint for helping that dog.

If Honey goes home with you that would be awesome! 😀

Dogs owner just came forward, they might not like the vet bill but they should not have let her get away with no ID! I hope they take her back, there seems to be some question. I have to wonder, why is there even a question??? She still might be coming home with me!

I hope the Vet comes to their senses and tell them they have a snowballs chance in HE Double hockey sticks on getting the dog back!!

Well DM you know, even if the vet wanted to there is the chance that they may legally need to return the dog to the owners. Laws aren’t always very fair..

Best wishes to you and Honey, Lunartic!

Yes, if the owner comes forward, claims the dog and pays the bill, the vet has no legal recourse but to return the dog.

BTW, sometimes Sh!t happens and dogs get away from you despite your best efforts. We can’t make assumptions without knowing the whole story. Maybe the dog is a door dasher who ran out behind its owner and took off before the owner could catch it, for instance.

Exactly! On the first day of school for my husband’s senior year of high school he was driving along a road and had no time at all to stop before a dog darted out in front of his car. He hit it and the kids who owned the dog were sitting on the front porch at the time it happened. I don’t remember what all happened after that, but he still feels bad about what happened that day and it’s been 12 years.

If you do end up keeping Honey and paying the vet bills, I would get in writing that the owners are giving the dog to you in exchange for you paying for her treatment. Preferably signed in front of the Vet and with his/her signature as witnessing it.

Am I suggesting they might let you pay the bill and then try to claim her? It’s certainly a possibility the way people are today. 🙁 However, with today’s economy, it could be that a bill of $1,000 is as insurmountable to them as $10,000 is to someone else. 😕

Let us know what you decide. If you do keep her, I will donate toward her vet bill.

Our cat Cinnamon is like this. I’m so thankful our apartment is part of a house, so when she does dash out it’s only into the hallway until we coax her back inside. It scares me half to death when animals do this, as I lost several cats to a busy street while growing up. My kitties are indoors only, and living in the city I do everything I can to keep them that way!

Good luck with Honey, Lunar! Keep us all updated!

Thank you and don’t get me wrong…as an animal owner I do understand that sometimes despite your best efforts, ESCAPES WILL HAPPEN. I police my home better than Ft. Knox when it comes to my cats, dogs, & bird. I warn company that they will be held hostage until what ever they let out is found safe and sound…and still it can and does happen. I am blessed to be in the country, 1000 ft from the nearest excuse for a road and have neighbors who will actually catch your critters and hold them until you come home from work or give you a call to let you know it’s out, or I have got it! We have a network of neighbors, LOL, cell phones & mainly because most of us own or work with horses and they can get out…a deer runs through your fence and poof horses go cruising to the nearest hay field…

                BUT

the driver should have stopped, and the vet legally has to return the dog to it’s owner…I will keep you posted and yes, she is a sweetie!
