This peacock old warrior has some interesting colours. In fact, I think this one has come up before, I’ll try to dig up the old thread.

January 20, 2008 at 2:38 am #657951I think it is a terrible picture…
After fiddling with the color levels, brightness and contrast, I got this.
So I think it is a legit Peacock OW, the second picture of him from the side indicates he is correct colors, and this color correction of the photo backs it.
He definately has some differences though, more purple and champagne than yours does…he’s pretty though.

January 20, 2008 at 2:45 am #657952Oosh, that’s a yellow-dominant photo on that auction! But looking at it next to the photo of your OW, I think the auction OW is legit. The green, purple, and blue all fall in the same places; they’re just horribly yellow-shifted. Either somebody spent WAY too much time painstakingly recreating the paint scheme of an actual peacock OW, or they just had bad luck with their camera. I think it’s the camera. But the photo is going to make it harder for them to get a good price for their OW. I bet the seller is pretty frustrated about that photo. 😕
January 20, 2008 at 2:45 am #657953I think that it is the red cloth that he is sitting on that it pulling out the wrong colors. I put a dragon once on a pink cloth and it drowned all the color I had on it, you couldn’t tell what color it was!!! 😯
January 20, 2008 at 2:48 am #657954No peacock old warrior that I have seen has gold on the chest, belly and undertail. It’s been touched up with other colours. I admit, the photo is really bad. But, it’s not that bad. (Do I sound cranky? I’m not 😆 )
Anyways, I don’t know for sure. But, just in case I sent it to John. But, I think I remember this guy from before. If it’s the same one then the person added gold and green to the dragon.
January 20, 2008 at 2:52 am #657955It is odd looking for sure…
January 20, 2008 at 3:54 am #657956It really looks very strange. If it was a Peacock the price would be right. How do we know?
January 20, 2008 at 3:58 am #657957I would bet my big toe it’s not a repaint.
It looks like someone got a little too excited with the champagne color at the Factory is all. We see variations in paint jobs all the time! If this is repainted or touched up, then someone out there is 1. An expert with an airbrush and knows just how Windstone production painters airbrush pieces, 2. Had access to the exact colors Windstone uses on their Peacock line (highly unlikely) and the exact same antique color (as the gold areas are indeed antiqued with the same color as the rest of the dragon) and 3. Why bother and go through all that effort?
Look at the blending and style on this guy. He’s gotta be a Factory painted dragon.

My art: featherdust.comJanuary 20, 2008 at 4:02 am #657958Additionally- this auction is a really great learning tool!
– This is one of the big reasons why Windstone discourages repaints so much. If an official paint job with some variations creates confusion amongst collectors, imagine what an unmarked or improperly marked repaint can do!
– This is a GREAT example of how different cameras and lighting situations can make the same colors look totally different. Windstones are best judged in person and not via photos. 😀

My art: featherdust.comJanuary 20, 2008 at 4:18 am #657959You can see some champagne on this guy’s belly- it’s there, but the photo really brought it out to me, compared with the dragon in real life. The camera also made the green look brighter/more teal.
Although this dragon looks to have less champagne, I think he has slightly more in real life.
The only difference is that the photos were taken about 5 or so minutes apart, approaching sunset, and clouds moving in.So maybe it is just screwy colors in the pic of a normal peacock.
(for what it’s worth, a truer example of the 1st OW’s color would be the photo of the lap I have in the flea market- the colors there are quite different from how they look in the OW’s photo)January 20, 2008 at 4:22 am #657960The colors on the one on ebay look very similar to the ones on the picture used by Ravnheart in the windstone price database for a mint peacock OW (a proto OW is shown, but still… same color).
January 20, 2008 at 4:43 am #657961Looks real to me, especially looking at the other Ebay photos of it. I’ve gotten similar “off” colors in photos using the macro function in low lighting without a tripod.
January 20, 2008 at 6:34 am #657962I thought when I saw (the first pic) WOW, wish Windstone would release that dragon 😯 I think he looked really cool in the first pic, til I saw that he was the peacock, then I thought “wow, that’s a horrible picture”. here I thought I stumbled across something really unique haha. (glad you guys are around, I came rushing to see if anyone had posted him!)
