Melody has said that they are very seriously considering retiring FOR ALL TIME all the oriental dragons. ;_;
This thread has two purposes. To appease my curiosity, because I THINK the orientals dragons are popular, but if they were, I don’t know why Melody would be doing away with them – and also, hopefully, to prove that they are in fact very popular and should be revived and made in new colors.
If you want the orientals to stick around, let your voice be heard!!
(btw, it is not my intention to harrass the Windstone people at all, nor do I believe I have any say whatsoever in what gets produced and what retired – Melody has every right to put the orientals to rest if that is her choice, most especially if they are not making her money. This is just to state that I would LOVE to give her money for more orientals, would be extremely sad to see them disappear, and to give other people the chance to voice their opinion….Go!)

-J R R TolkienFebruary 16, 2007 at 2:47 pm #540967I dont think its so much the demand, more the problems they have casting them. I personally like them. I have the ruby sun and a baby emerald. I think a jade or peacock oriental will be next on my list. They are quite adorable. I really would love to see them in new colors, esp after seeing what whippet did with hers. That was stunning.
February 16, 2007 at 2:56 pm #540968My husband loves them since he is a year of the dragon- and he has the emerald one- I desperately want to see a black gold one.
February 16, 2007 at 6:27 pm #540969I’m all for giving Melody more money…I honestly would love to see the elusive Oriental Moon Dragon….WITH THE CHEESE!!!!!
February 16, 2007 at 6:35 pm #540970Ack.. I posted this in the Ask Melody forum, but here’s what she said. It’s because the molds are neigh unusable and they are a huge pain to cast.

Any closer to releasing any of the orientals in a new color?? I know you don’t encourage repaints, but did you see the beautiful koi oriental dragon that Whippet painted??

A koi pattern would make a WICKED AWESOME new production color….I remember you saying that it looks better done by hand than with an airbrush, but most of us think your koirin looked just beautiful…Also, are you planning on making any more birman flap cats??? I saved up and just when I was ready to buy one they were gone…and I know I’m not the only one who missed out! I suspect we won’t be bringing any of the Orientals back as production pieces. They are just too hard to cast (try to picture removing a seamless, one-piece mold from them) I hoped to someday make them all in limited production colors, including the elusive Moon dragon, but that isn’t something we will be doing in the near future, since the molds will probably need to be redesigned first.If we still have some castings of the Sun dragon and the young dragons sitting around unpainted,(I don’t know if we do, ’cause I’m still in Oregon) I would like do a special “end of run” edition in some weird color…I have tried koi markings on them…and I still got this problem with it.. YICK.( Oh, I take that back! I just looked at Whippets…Why does HERS look good, and mine suck???? )
Yes, we will probably make more Birman flapcats, eventually. I really like those.Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com

February 16, 2007 at 6:38 pm #540972Mooooonnnnnn Dragon yes, with the cheese.
February 16, 2007 at 7:57 pm #540973I don’t own any, and they’re not a big buying priority for me, but I do like them very much. It would be a pity to retire them for good.
February 16, 2007 at 8:35 pm #540974I love them and I hope to get a oriental and a young oriental to add to my sun. It would be wonderful to see them in different colours! Though for some reason, I can’t imagine them being harder to cast than the scratcher.. 😮
February 16, 2007 at 9:04 pm #540975It would be very sad if they were retired, but I do hope at least that a few batches of the moon dragon will get made! I want one sooooooooooooooo bad!
February 16, 2007 at 10:53 pm #540976I NEVER thought too much of the oriental dragons until I fianlly saw one in person. If I had more money I’d LOVE to get one in every color
