I’m trying to figure out how best to display Windstones at Astral Castle. Or anywhere for that matter. Actually its the Dragons I’m having a problem with. (And I feel sure a poll like this must have been done before but I was not able to find one).
Here’s my question:
When you go into a store to look at the Windstone Dragons, or when you imagine yourself doing so, do you prefer to see the Dragons arranged by color family (all the Em-Pea’s together; all the Black Golds somewhere else, together)? Or do you like to see mis-matched families, with each member represented by a different color? Or do you like to see a grouping of all the same sculpture in the different colors (all the Lap Dragons in one place; all the Males in another)?
Or what?
January 15, 2008 at 2:13 am #493955January 15, 2008 at 2:16 am #656227I said random because the one store near me that sells them doesn’t put them in any real order… Rainbows are next to black golds with rubys mixed in XD Seems only the unicorns are in their own group.
January 15, 2008 at 2:24 am #656228It would be neat to group them. If possible. 😀
January 15, 2008 at 2:28 am #656229I like to see matching families together. *has horrible OCD sometimes and will rearrange things in stores if they’re out of order* XD;
January 15, 2008 at 2:32 am #656230I said individual dragons in colors….
to me I’d like to see the different colors to see which I’d like more….
and see the diff sculpts so I can choose…
as long as I know that other color is available for me to ask for….
January 15, 2008 at 2:32 am #656231I can’t remember ever seeing a poll like this one. I think it’s a good one. I’ve only been to a few shops that carry Windstones, some of them so long ago they are closed and I can’t remember how they were arranged. The two stores that I do remember though (and I’m still a little fuzzy on the displays at both) had the dragons grouped in color families, but there might be the occasional oddball piece thrown in.
January 15, 2008 at 2:43 am #656232I said mixed colors because that’s how I collect mine 🙂 When I look at the shelf I like to see lots of different colors on different sculpts.
January 15, 2008 at 2:44 am #656233I like to see the families all together, but I also want to be able to see all the colors they come in.

January 15, 2008 at 3:19 am #656234To me having a shelf of the same sculpt in different colors is too much like a Breyer conga line. 😛 I prefer to see small groupings of a color. And even if all the sculpts in a particular color are available, I’d rather not see them all sitting beside each other because that tends to wash the individual sculpts out. So mine tend to be displayed in little groups, i.e. Peacock Male, Mother, Young, and Hatching next to the same sculpts in Old Brown, while the Peacock Riser and Emperor are across the room next to some Old Warriors. To me this makes the display more fun, kind of a “oh, look what’s over here!” for the viewer. And it makes sure that smaller guys like the Young don’t get missed.
Sculpt “families” that only have 3 or 4 members, like the Unicorns and Pegasi, get displayed as family groups. And if there’s only one shelf that fits the really tall pieces, then they get displayed together. From a retail standpoint, it might make sense to also do a “small guys only” display since a lot of buyers may have limited funds at the time of their first visit, and it’s good to make sure they see something that they know will be in their budget. 🙂
January 15, 2008 at 3:42 am #656235From my experience when shopping for Windstones I find that when they are all by family of the same color they tend not to stand out (they all blend together) where as the same sculpt in different colors spaced appart by an other sculpt makes them really stand out.
So really my answer would be Individual Dragon in various colors but a little bit mixed with another sculpt of different colors also. (example: the Emporor in different colors seperated in between each with a lower sculpt in different colors)
Does this make any sense to you. Hope you can understand this. 😕January 15, 2008 at 4:03 am #656236I prefer to see all the same sculpt in the different colors next to each other. So, if I was wandering through your store, Id stop at the display of Young Dragons and see which color I liked best on them. That color may not be the same I would like on the Male. Hence, Id like to see all colors of the Male next to each other, and so on.
January 15, 2008 at 4:06 am #656237I said Individual Dragon in various colors. I have my perosnal ones arranged in the same color per family but that is the way I like it in my house. I would think in a store it would be kewl to find the dragons all over in different colors and poses. I’m not sure how many I would put out due to theft and trying to remember where you put which sculpture. That was astually the way the book store I was buying from did it before they closed
January 15, 2008 at 5:26 am #656238Both stores I have bought colored dragons from arranged them by color family, with maybe one shelf of mismatched remainders. I tend to go by color family, but will have maybe two groups of a color. I have one set of rubies in my curio and the other set is mixed with similar color PYOs, the VF fledgie and other non-windstone stuff.
January 15, 2008 at 6:13 am #656239I arrange mine by individual sculpt, and I guess that’s how I’d like to see them in a store, if there were any around.
