I can completely understand your frustration. I have this curio that is just about butt ugly, really. It’s the eyesore of the house(considering there’s parts of the house with wallpaper falling off the wall, you get the idea). But, it does keep the bulk of the resins dust free. I’m super picky too. It’s got to be just right for your house, esp since furniture is one of those things, if you like it, you can keep it for 80 years. Keep looking, you’ll find what you want eventually!!

You said you have glass cases. Have you ever tried the putty on wood?

I have not tried it on wood yet but I should with all my Franklin Mint dragons. I have been told it works and I think it also said on the package that it worked, but you can’t trust packages
February 23, 2007 at 1:27 am #542386Wow… I’ll have to try that Earthquake putty, not that it’s a huge problem here in upstate NY… last earthquake totally woke me out of bed, but nothing in my dorm room moved, and I had a lot of little stuff that would tip or move if you breathed wrong. Just depends on the type of wave.
As for shelves, try looking in antique stores or at garage/estate sales/auctions. My mom has a display case that has been passed down. The entire frame is wood, including the shelves, and the sides and door are inset with large pieces of glass. The door locks with a key. There is no light, but you could easily install a lighting fixture within. I’d use it for my windstones, but it’s my mom’s and she has it filled with her Precious Moments and a couple of small dolls. She does let me keep my swarovski pieces and my bohemian crystal vase from Prague in there though. I don’t need any thundering cockers knocking them over. Some of the swarovski is good sized and retired – hurray for going out of business sales!
When I do one day get a place of my own, I’ll be getting something similar, or making my own. I don’t trust tempered glass or a lot of the shelving units I see in stores. They are flimsy. We have tempered glass table covers on top of some of our end tables. We’ve had two just shatter out of no where. No one touched them. My dad walked by one and it just shattered into a bunch of little pieces tottaly out of nowhere. The other one happened when no one was around and nothing had fallen. The only thing on these tables are a single lamp, a small picture frame or two and maybe a pen or two. After having that, I’ll stick to good wooden shelves. The ones in my room are working great and the dogs aren’t allowed in my room (not that they could reach above my door frame anyways).
February 23, 2007 at 8:44 am #542387IKEA! They will most likely ship to you, and if not, I can go purchase the shelf and ship it to you myself. I was just looking for a Windstone shelf myself tonight, and although IKEA is very far from me, its WORTH the drive, and they are much cheaper than Target.
I think I may get this one for myself for now at least, to get them off my dresser, chest and night stand. It’s cheap, holds 66pounds per shelf and doesn’t look like it will fall forward.
However,I saw a beautiful one on their site too. (Unfortuantly I cant get it to link! Its very pricey, but I would say worth it. Although personally my budget for shelving isn’t too high, so I’m looking more for functionality

My friends at work have said that IKEA furniture is not made to last but is good for college kids and young adults just starting outFebruary 23, 2007 at 9:09 am #542390Dragon Master wrote:How do you guys like IKEA furniture??
My friends at work have said that IKEA furniture is not made to last but is good for college kids and young adults just starting outYep, perfect for people starting out. Its mid grade. There is lots better out there, but alot worse, too. You have to go and tighten hardware every once in a while, too.
February 23, 2007 at 9:25 am #542391sounds like what my friends where telling me
February 24, 2007 at 1:10 am #542392I just like the style. When the IKEA opens by my house, I am gonna get a couple like Ski’s.

My friends at work have said that IKEA furniture is not made to last but is good for college kids and young adults just starting outWell true, there is better stuff out there…I just like their stuff because most everything has a ‘fresh’ clean look to it. I love modern furniture though. But also, a nice shelf with glass doors will probably run you a few hundred dollars at Star Furniture or Fingers, (or locally) Gallery Furniture, some places like that. Personally I’d rather spend the extra couple hundred $$ on more Windstones 😉 like the brown riser on the direct sales page 8)
February 24, 2007 at 8:05 am #542394I have mostly IKEA furniture. Have had since I was a kid and have had no problems. I just find that the lighter woods ‘age’ or darken a bit over time. they are also simple, strong and relitively cheap 😀 All my Windstones are on them. Also, most of their bookshelves, cabinets and tall dressers all come with either brackets or straps that you are supposed to attach to the wall to keep kids from pulling them over. I never do, but I don’t have kids or pets!
February 24, 2007 at 4:10 pm #542395That is a good idea. I don’t have kids, but kids do come to my house. I wouldn’t want to see them (the kids or windstones) smashed.
February 24, 2007 at 4:17 pm #542396Pulaski does make decent cabinets. I have 2 of their curio cabinets holding some antique china. One of the things that I really like about them is that they are made in the USA. If you have somewhere like Dillards department store, that’s where I found mine.
February 24, 2007 at 4:54 pm #542397Ahh im so glad i don’t get earthquakes over here! With my glass cabinets i make sure i only have one heavy piece on each shelf and i weigh every dragon so i don’t overload the shelfs. Dads made me some wooden shelfs that i can sit on they are so strong. Ever thought of finding the wood you like and getting them made? I guess that would cost alot though.
I have just got my Windstone Griffin and i wouldn’t even dream about putting him on a glass shelf!
