Ok, so I finished my PYO Swap peice last night around 10:00pm. I was really tired, but very pleased, and then the cat jumped on my chair and *PUSHED* it over onto my glass table top, such a brat sometimes… and only five minutes after I finished..She’s grounded..grumble…

Anyways she chipped the top of a ..uh..spot on the head, since it is a secret… clear off. I learned two things, from the incident one, doing a repair at 10 pm is really tiring when your already tired and stiff from painting for 5 hours, and that stain really sinks into the gypsum.

So I have repaired it, and you can barely see where it broke unless your really looking. Beacuse there was finish over the stain, I couldn’t match it perfectly, but like I said you wouldn’t know unless you were told, and looked from the the exact right spot.

    So the question….

This is subject to opinion, but would be OK to still give it to my swapee or should I do a new one? Does this seem unfair even though I repaired it? I put 35-40 ish hours into it and don’t want it to be wasted but I don’t want to be unfair to my swapee either. How would you feel?

I would say maybe send pictures of it to the person in charge of the swap and see what they think. If it is noticeable maybe you could just sell or trade it and do another one for the swap if you have time. If not it would probably be okay to swap if it’s fixed well.

        Yeah, send me a pic…

We’ve had an instance of a PYO being smashed to smithereens, and the artist started a new one, but not a repairable piece before!

But I would like to hear people’s thoughts on this.

If I was the recipient, it wouldn’t bother me at all. You put a ton of love and work into it and took extra time to repair it. <3

I guess it depends on the break. If it’s a piece that really don’t even notice or if it’s a piece that could maybe be altered (meaning you could either paint/accent it, like with a paint pen or something), I’d say don’t worry about redoing. I’ve received a piece that had a nick out of a spot on it. The painter didn’t realize until just before sending it to me (the nick was there when they painted it or they tried to paint match). It isn’t glaringly noticeable and while I can find it, I really have to look for it. On a shelf or sitting on a desk next to me, I don’t notice it and I rather like the piece. 🙂

Broken to smithereens… that would be a bit hard to just patch up. 😉

I’m sending the email now. I’m just worried about time to do a new one, and like i said it is subject to opinion. What I may perceive as small, another could feel it completely ruins it.

I couldn’t entirely match it, because it was stain. My first repair of a stain piece, and it is much more difficult to match than acrylic. Where as acrylic is ON the piece, stain is IN the piece.

**EDIT it appears i have to shrink the files, this will take me a min or two.

EDIT** ok I tried again, I think it went this time

I hereby pronounce the wounded PYO fully healed!

Seriously, it’s a good thing she circled the break, ’cause I couldn’t see it, even on the close-ups.

I wouldn’t worry about something like this, it sounds like it survived okay thanks to the surgery that you performed on it! 😀 (Plus hey, you learned how deep your stain penetrates XD. That’s gotta be cool!) The love, blood, sweat and tears that you put in will be more noticeable than the crack by the sound of things! 🙂

Well, I’m a bit late commenting so I will just say this. I’m glad you were able to repair your PYO piece for the swap. I’m sure it’s a huge relief on many levels.

I’m a little late, and though I wasn’t able to participate in this swap, I think a repair would be fine as long as it is done well. I mean, all the people are putting into this financially is the cost of the blank. If it’s minor I don’t see it as being a big deal, but that’s just me.

Ya that was one I had painted that my cat totally smashed.

If it is a small break that was hard to see then it wouldn’t bother me either.

Hey, stuff happens… I feel as most seem to. If the repair is barely noticable it should be okay. 🙂

Yes, stuff does happen and it looks like the PYO has been pronounced healed by the person organizing the swap. If I were the recipient, it wouldn’t bother me–I know how much work goes into these pieces and we want to do the best we can for the person we’re painting for. Whoever gets it, they will know how much concern you had and the work that was poured into this piece–I would consider it a very special piece.
