Today I found out why my pea plants aren’t thriving. There are APHIDS on them! *grrr* There was aphid carnage today. And there will be more tomorrow if I find any more of the little buggers.
Eat my peas, will you! Ha!

July 8, 2008 at 11:36 pm #721256After them! Let not one aphid escape alive!
July 9, 2008 at 12:11 am #721257an easy way to get rid of them is head to the garden store and buy a cup of Lady Bugs . They live off of eating Aphids and they look nice in a garden . If your lucky they will reproduce in the garden and you wont have any more problems with the nasty little aphids ,or other pests either

Aphids are one of the only bugs I can smash and/or poison untold numbers of without never feeling guilty. Flies and fleas are others. And Japanese beetles! Japanese beetles make nice koi treats… 😈
July 9, 2008 at 4:37 pm #721261I like the lady bug idea… ewww… bugs.
July 9, 2008 at 7:59 pm #721262July 9, 2008 at 8:56 pm #721263Necron beat me to it, I was gonna suggest ladybugs, I buy them by the pound! The aphids thought to destroy my roses, and I rained down lady bug carnage on their squishy green bodies!!!
Oh, and a quick aside…there was a stag beetle the size of a cadillac in my bathroom sink yesterday…I screamed like a horror movie actress, and did the “kill the bug” jig untill my hubby came and scooped it up and tossed it out of the second story window!!! I usually like beetle, but not when they scare the daylights out of me!

This is one of those things I wish I’d known 20 years ago when I read somewhere that nicotine gets rid of aphids. I bought a pouch of tobacco, and steeped half of it in water to produce a tea that I could spray on the plants. It worked great, but I had that half pouch of tobacco left. And it smelled so good I tried smoking some. And it gave me a buzz so I smoked some more.
Later I graduated to the hard stuff (cigarettes).
I’ve now been nicotine free for 3 years, but I still consider myself to be an addict.
Stupid herbal remedies.
July 10, 2008 at 7:40 pm #721265Hehe…I just watched an episode of “Sister, Sister” today, and Lisa was spraying a plant with something and scolding, “DIE APHIDS, DIE!!!” 😆
