in my Amethyst Hatching Empress? Mine arrived today, and the eyes are a straw/orange color, not the orange eyes that are in my Fledgling. 😮 Is this a new color?
Hmm..
Maybe it because they are from different batches of eyes? I know they hand paint them and some of the colors are mixed by hand (if I’m not mistaken).She just needs to mature a little more!
(sorry, just thinking about how bird eyes start dark and turn light- maybe dragons are opposite!)the eyes in the empress look normal to me, but the fledgie looks like his eyes are more reddish orange.
I had this issue with the spotted griffins. The male’s eyes were darker than the female’s or chick’s. He also has a metallic beak and talons which the mother and chick didn’t. Spotted griffins are apparently highly variable.

We have a light and a dark orange, and we do get them mixed up sometimes. Our recent new batch of orange is even darker than the old dark orange which will add to the variance (the new amethyst hatching dragons are getting the new dark orange). To further complicate things, our 8mm “dark” orange looks just like the 8mm light orange, but darkens in the higher eye sizes. Griffin chicks get 8mm.
I will check my hatching empress tomorrow and see what color she got.
Skylover: Is your BW female one of the new ones we painted in Oregon? When we painted our first batch of BW Females Griffins in Oregon they didn’t match the old ones, but I can’t remember if the original BW griffins had metallic beaks or not. Then on our second new batch, the scheme changed over to what the male is painted like–with a metallic beak and white over the eyes. When we paint more again they will also probably be different. That happens a lot over here.

My BW female griffin was from the first batch that was released after you moved to Oregon. She was one of the first Version 2 female griffins. She was supposed to have eyebrows, but didn’t. (I don’t mind since I prefer her without them.) I asked around to see if this happened with anyone else’s, but I got more opinions about how people liked or disliked the color instead of an answer, so I can’t answer if there are any others like her. The chick and the father were bought several months later about one week from each other. The chick matched the mother more than the father. It didn’t have the metallic beak or claws and had lighter orange eyes. I like the individual variations, so the differences don’t bother me. Are there going to be more made? I’d like to complete the family, even if every single one is different.
The very first batch of females we released From Oregon didn’t have eyebrows, the second did. I don’t know if they were all called ver. 2 or just the ones with eyebrows. If the latter, I imagine yours just got mixed in by mistake.
Hm, well all I can remember is that when I bought her, she was a version 2 and was supposed to have eyebrows (that’s what was shown in the picture anyway). My friend got one at the same time I did, and it had eyebrows. I guess it is possible that she is a mislabeled version 1 that somehow got mixed in, but didn’t they have more black? It’s kind of hard to tell batches with these as they seemed to come out rather sporadically. I just remember when version 2 was first released, all but the females were sold out when I arrived, so I was only able to get a female. Whatever she is, I like her, and I’m not going to complain.
