Oh mos def. I hope there are no eruptions while I am there… 😆
You will be a lot safer with the type of eruptions that Hawaii has, than the ones the continental USA can have..! 🙂

My art: featherdust.comApril 18, 2008 at 4:33 pm #691330I didn’t feel a thing, up here in Minnesota. I’ll listen to the news later and see if anything gets mentioned. We may be too far away.
April 18, 2008 at 5:09 pm #691331I just read about the earthquake in Laurell K. Hamilton’s blog. Talk about an experience. I’ve never felt an earthquake, would probably rattle me if I did.

There’s no real name to the series, but the main star is Meredith Gentry. We’ve got a few LKH fans on here.

I like Doyle the best. 😉
April 18, 2008 at 6:37 pm #691335😯 Wait…call me naive 😳 , but I didn’t know that Illinois or Missouri had earthquakes? ❗ Does that mean Iowa has them too? I didn’t feel anything, but I am glad it wasn’t too big!
April 18, 2008 at 6:39 pm #691336Glad you are OK

Illinois and Missouri have a fault line called the New Madrid fault that runs from somewhere in Missouri down to Tennessee and it also has branches stemming out from it.
If you research the earthquake of 1811 (where the ground shook so hard the Mississippi river ran backwards) you’ll learn more about it.
April 18, 2008 at 9:47 pm #691338Yep, we just had one like…wow, that was a while ago, now, because I was in grade school…we were sitting in chapel and the whole auditorium started shaking. XD It kind of sounded like a huge dumptruck was coming towards us, and then you could see like, waves across the ground. Very weird. That one was kind of expected though, because some guy was predicting it and had everyone going (he was only like a month off or something, too). That was from the New Madrid fault, the one this morning was from some fault over in Illinois…appparently, when it quakes, it’s felt for quite some distance! I’ve heard that even people in Canada felt this one. Crazy!
So I go to work this morning expecting everyone to be like omg did you feel that earthquake?! And boy was I surprised, they were all like, dur? at me. >_>!! They must sleep like logs. Then I’m standing there with four other people, and I feel this aftershock, and I was like omg did you feel it this time!? And they’re like, feel what? XD XD *smacks forehead*
Everyone around here gets taken down to the ‘earthquake museum’ in New Madrid when they’re in gradeschool >.>; They’ve got this horrible picture of the Mississippi running backwards, with people sinking into quicksand, and all kinds of apocalyptic madness going on hanging up, and every kid who’s ever gone there remembers THAT, at the very least. LoL.

Sure you do. Is Hawaii prone to earthquakes?
We periodically get little ones here, but I always sleep through them.I wouldnt think so, being a little island and all… I never thought of it. I suppose we will get an earthquake every time there is a big wave. 😆considering all the “islands” were formed by volcanoes…and that volcanoes are normally on faults…it’s entirely possible to have earthquakes…
and eruptions…and both at the same time…
hehe…
we had a few small earthquakes here a few years ago….
April 18, 2008 at 11:19 pm #691340That’s the interesting thing about Hawaii, they aren’t on a fault. They are in the middle of a plate. I don’t think Hawaii gets any earthquakes. But they say that a certin state (not Hawaii) is a supervolcano….. They predict that it will erupt in a few hundred years…..

Gee, the one in Yellowstone that Discovery likes to talk about?
April 18, 2008 at 11:24 pm #691342😆 Yes.
April 18, 2008 at 11:43 pm #691343Megani-chan, Rusti, and Kitsunelady, I’m glad all of you are okay! A 20-second earthquake is nothing to sneeze at! 😯 I’m glad there was no damage but most of all, I’m glad all of you are safe!
