Finally, I have GOOD news 😀 I got in my scratcher today, and he does look mint as the seller said, woohoo! (aside from the cigarete smell anyway) He is so small though! For whatever reason, I always imagined him being bigger. Maybe because I have only ever seen one in person and I was only, like, 10 at the time.. Everything looks bigger when you are 10.
Anyway, here is a picture of him with the rest of the “emerald” family. No two are alike.September 27, 2007 at 8:05 pm #492772September 27, 2007 at 8:16 pm #621213Beautiful, congrats! Now I’m sorry I didn’t buy that scratcher… 😆

September 27, 2007 at 8:39 pm #621220Wow…beautiful…congrats! Are jades generally rarer than emralds?
September 27, 2007 at 8:47 pm #621221My little sister just finished begging me not to ever get rid of him (I told her I might sell or trade him in five or ten years).
So how many jade scratcher owners are there now?
Oh, and one more thing, on the scratchers, is one horn higher than the other? On mine the left horn definately curves up more than the right. It’s not a massive difference, but it is noticeable. I can’t find any evedence though that one was bent on accident. No paint cracks or stress lines or anything… And he was sent in an original scratcher box with another box around that.
(Please forgive the dustiness, he hasn’t had a bath yet.)The astral castle scratcher looks opposite, with the right horn being higher.

Yes, jades as a whole are less common than regular emeralds. But it depends on the piece as well. Jade orientals are probably one of the most common jade pieces. The oriental babies were also made in jade for a time as well I think? The curled dragon has showed up a few times in jade. The hatching empress in jade is REALLY rare. I would consider the jade scratchers rare but not “super-unheard-of” rare.

My guess is that the hole on that side is a bit big so there is lots of wiggle room until the glue sets. The newer ones that I have in the shop tend to have the left horn lower than the right, though not as noticeably as yours.
But think of it – you don’t ever find quite symmetrical horns or antlers or tusks on real animals either.
