I think that the paint-your-owns might be the best clue. If several of them were present, it’s pretty unlikely they were all from second-hand sources, unless the person painted them. In which case, we might recognize a painting style.

Lets see if any other indicator pieces turn up first. Curls might be a good tracking device if there was a limited enough color present, but a OOAK or one of the first-run production pieces with the sparkle paint on them also might be a good indicator.

I thought Windstone did not keep those kinds of records. What if most of these dragons where purchesed in a store or from one of the retail dealers we have here it can be VERY difficult to trace back. She may not have even been a Forum member. She might not have known about the Forum

It’s still very sad no matter if we knew her or not

*rubs her chin* I didn’t think they sold the curlies in stores. o_O And the PYOs…hrm. There aren’t many people listing Wisconsin as their home…I was thinking tatt2dcowgrl was a possibility until I realized ‘tatt2d’ was not about tatting. :O

Even if she bought them thru the store that does not mean she was an active Forum member. Maybe she just had a store account to purchase from. That would be the key if Windstone could find out anyone in her area that purchased the Pink Curly recently

No, I remember someone mentioning that they saw some PYOs in an actual store-store. So it could be possible that they were bought in a brick store. As for the curls… it has to be in the WS store unless they did what they did with the PYOs (that one store that did have the pyos).

She might not have been a forum member… but she might have. That is what we are trying to figure out. From the number and types of dragons she had, this was no small investor, and with the PYOs and curls, there is a reasonably good chance she knew of the board.

Thing about the internet, is people drop off the map all the frigging time. And this is *not* the way we had hoped to find out about a potential forum member’s death. No worse than you, or anyone else knocking off, and someone else finding their collection in the dumpster, smashed to bits.

Don’t downplay this tragedy. Just because she might not have been a forum member makes it no less of a tragic, recent death of a windstone collector.

How awful! 🙁 I hope you guys are able to figure this out.

Weren’t there less silver curls than pink? I think the silver ones were released more recent too… like just before Thanksgiving.

The only member I remember mentioning they had that many emps is DM and he is still here, and i hope no one calls him Grandma, LOL, err sorry.

From the list so far none of the pieces are from ebay, at least as far as I can tell, which leads me to think they were not a member here.

But, some members may not be able to get any of the Ebay pieces… since they go pretty high most of the time. If there is a pink curlie… they know of the LP pieces. So can still possibly be a forum member.

No they can be, of course, either way it is sad.

I’m sure DM did not mean anything by this, dark_zorse 🙂 He’s just stating that it’s a possibility. And it is, a good one. I’m sure there are plenty of people who visit the boards and buy from the store but never join or post on the forum. I do hope we’re able to discover who this lady was, though… 🙁

I’m not down playing anything in any way!!
I did say no matter who she was or how it happened it’s still very sad!!!
I was simply trying to say that with how many different ways that Windstones get out in to the world it may be simply impossible to figure out who she was. The curls that everyone seems to be focusing on could have been given to her as a gift from anyone on this planet that is breathing.
It is very sad that we have lost such and avid collector. It would be tragic if we lost some one here that only has 1 piece or no pieces since they simply can’t afford to get them. I was not trying to down play this in anyway. Just pointing out other facts. Death is ALWAYS tragic
We have also had 2 batches each of the Green and Pink Curls. they spanned over a couple months if I remember correctly. How do we know for sure which batch they came from?

If her friends and famly knew she collected Windstones maybe she got the last few for Christmas this last year?

The important thing for all of us to remember, is that this person’s things were found and they weren’t just discarded. That one of us actually spent the money and time to gather this poor soul’s belongings and bring them home.

I am sure she would be thrilled that we are all thinking about her and that the pieces she lovingly collected will be taken care of. Also that her passing has helped the life of another collector.

Her pieces will live on as a legacy and she will be remembered. Even if we never find out who she was….she will be remembered. That is the beautiful thing about this forum.

We CARE about each other! So no matter what we find out….at least her treasured possessions will end up being cared for, by people with the same love.
