The thickness of the shelves seems the same as my Ikea thingy, but yours are much wider and deeper. My shelves have a limit of 12 pounds – I can put an emperor or one male and momma dragon.
I would start small and see how comfortable you feel.
12lbs for your ikea glass shelves? Yikes.
What kind of cabinet from there do you have/do you know the name? I have a small cabinet from ikea with glass shelves that I put my Windstones in, but I dont remember what its called and I dont think they sell it there anymore. Heres a picture of it;Is it anything like what you have? Its a little more than 3ft high by 3ft wide. If yours only holds 12 lbs that makes me worried because I have about 15-18lbs on each of the glass shelves right now.
February 27, 2008 at 9:16 pm #670381The cabinet I have never said how much weight the shelves can hold… it makes me nervous just having a father griffin and four chicks on one shelf. 😯 I dunno what brand it is… I got it for $100 at Alco.

February 27, 2008 at 11:15 pm #670382I just got off the phone with a rep from the Coaster Comp and she said the limit is 10 pounds per shelf. Then she said it is 15 but they don’t want to tell people that cause it all depends on how you place your things on the shelves. Now I need to figure what piece weighs what so I can put my stuff up. I think I am still gonna go to a glass comp and see if I can get something stronger. Anyone have the round abouts on what the pieces weigh. I forgot.
February 27, 2008 at 11:17 pm #670383Check the online store. It should tell you the weight of the current pieces.
February 27, 2008 at 11:18 pm #670384There is no on-line store.
February 27, 2008 at 11:25 pm #670385I meant Windstone’s online store. It should have the weight of all their currently available pieces.
February 27, 2008 at 11:51 pm #670386Ooops! Sorry. Thanks!
February 28, 2008 at 1:31 am #670387Ok, I just got back from The Glass Shop and ordered new glass. They told me that my glass will hold 20lbs but I went ahead and ordered 1/4 inch that will hold about 30 to 35lbs. Better to be safe than sorry!
February 28, 2008 at 2:35 am #670388Good plan!
February 28, 2008 at 4:14 am #670389When I had my display cabinet built, I had 3/8″ glass shelves put in with steel supports every 12″. I was told by the glass company that 3/8″ regular glass wlll hold 40 lbs per foot. (See my thread on my new display cabinet and collection if you want to)
February 28, 2008 at 4:36 pm #670390Yah, I got regular glass. I was looking at the tempered but the lady said if it gets hit in the corner then its gonna shatter.
February 28, 2008 at 10:03 pm #670391I really do like the Ikea glass display cases but they only hold a maximum load of 13 pounds…so only 2 big pieces per shelf. That would make me nervous.
February 28, 2008 at 10:24 pm #670392How much does it cost for get thicker glass? I just measured the glass in my cabinet and it’s 3/16″. Makes me really nervous. I wonder if I should put my griffins in the bookcase… but then they’ll get dusty. x.x Then again dusty is better than broken… *flail*

My glass is 27 in wide and 17 in deep and I paid about $27.00 a piece for the new 1/4 in glass.
February 28, 2008 at 10:41 pm #670394Ah… mine’s not that big, but it’s curved, so I wonder if it would cost more to cut? Either way I can’t afford it now so I’ll just have to be careful. ^^;
