I know, another curio question. But hey, I don’t want my pieces going splat, crunch , break!!!
I bought two curios made by Coaster Furniture. They were missing the mirrors so I got them for $179.00 a piece. This is from a small store and they had no info on them. I need to know the weight limit for the glass shelves. The shelves are 17 inches deep, 27 inches wide and they are 3/16 inch thick. Please measure you shelves and give me info!!! 😆 I know I could probably call the Coaster Furniture Company but I don’t know the name of the Curio or have a number for them to look it up. Here is a pic:

Depends on the glass… my glass wieghs A LOT! * I had to take them into the house one at a time!!!* I bet that the glass could carry an OW but in the same breath I do not want to find out the hard way that I was wrong! lol 🙂 I read somewhere about “If the glass bows or not”… THAT would scare me and make me turn ghost white! 😆

Nice curio by the way! 😉

The thickness of the shelves seems the same as my Ikea thingy, but yours are much wider and deeper. My shelves have a limit of 12 pounds – I can put an emperor or one male and momma dragon.

I would start small and see how comfortable you feel.

Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

If there is a glass place near you ask them a few questions. They could probably tell you about the strength of various thicknesses of glass. And is your glass tempered? Tempered glass is supposed to be stronger than non-tempered glass.

Beautiful cabinet! I’ve hunted around Google and can’t find a site that lists how much weight that sheet of glass can hold. You’d think that’d be a common question…

I think I would still ask the cabinet company. You could always send them the photo to identify the cabinet.

I second emerald’s idea. You *really* don’t want to find out the hard way. I know thicker glass is very strong, but I don’t know about thinner….

                      That’s a beautiful cabinet!

When you buy one new do they normally have weight limits on the packaging?

I never even thought about it.. I’ve looked at a couple used ones off Craigslist lately and posted a want ad for one. I did put in the want ad I was looking for a very large (at least 4 feet high and a 2-3 feet wide minimum) glass cabinet to display very heavy dragons. I never thought about the fact they could break the glass! Wouldn’t that be great to come home to a broken curio and a pile of broken dragons. Is there something specific I should be looking for as far as the thickness of the glass, etc? Any advice would be appreciated. I only have one wood cabinet with a glass front and it’s currently holding model horses, and the space between shelves isn’t tall enough for even a father dragon it would just hold mamas and such.

Maybe I will try and call the company. If I don’t get anything from that I’ll go to a glass company. I have to do that anyhow cause I need to get the mirrors. I’m not sure if it is tempered. Maybe I’ll get new glass. My husband suggests that we put good sized rocks on the glass for a bit to test the glass.

a good idea to test it with rocks!

hmm….doesn’t it list it somewhere….all the shelves I’ve ever bought list a weight limit….

I thought that was some kind of rule that they had to list the weight limit on the paperwork somewhere…

if you don’t have the paperwork…I’d ask where you bought it…or just get the manufacturer phone number…and call them…

I posted a topic a while ago about the same thing and I’m still not sure if I want to risk putting all my dragons in there. I could never find out the weight limit for my shelves either. 😕

My most wanted list: Peacock kitty wizard, carnelian mouse wizard, copper patina frog wizard, autumn leaf poads, pumpkin spice kitties
