Me boyohs are running cross country by special invitation from the high school coaches and are having a blast! Yesterday they had a meet in Star Valley Wyoming which is approx 3 hours away. Out of 109 kids, Sean placed 11th and Ethan placed 85th, but he had stopped to help a girl from one of the other teams who had fallen and twisted her knee. He helped get her back to her coaches and then finished the run. Needless to say, I’m proud of both meboyohs! The thing I really like about cross country and track is that everyone including athletes, parents and coaches from rival teams cheer ALL the runners and line the course to cheer on the all the runners, especially those that are minutes and distance way behind. The young man that finished last wasn’t very happy with his performance but his coach told him not to be so hard on himself; he had finished and not given up and that’s all that mattered

September 10, 2009 at 3:50 pm #783139Yeah Sean and Ethan! What fine young gentlemen you are raising.
September 10, 2009 at 4:25 pm #783140Congradulations to the boyohs! How nice of Ethan to help that girl. What a positive experience for all involved–I loved especially that the coach told the kid who finished last not to be hard on himself–that he finished and that’s all that mattered. So different from the win, win, win at all costs attitude and I must say refreshing too!
The boyohs did great! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, seems like a trophy would be appropriate for this performance–a trophy of the butternut variety heeheeheeheehee 😆

September 10, 2009 at 6:07 pm #783142I’m pretty sure it was a Buternut Poad!!!
I used to run both Cross Country and Track in High School and imporved GREATLY at first I could not break a 7 minute mile and by the time I left it 3 1/2 years later I was at 5:12 so it’s GREAT to hear that the kids today are getting posivite reinforcment
Is is normal for boys and girls to run together now?? Back in my day (now I sound REAL OLD!!) we have Girls sepereate and Varsity and Frosh/Soph for the boys
This brought back many memories!!!
I’m SO happy to hear that you son was so admirable in helping this girl out
Sounds like you are raising a ouple of fine young men there
WAY TO GO!!!!September 10, 2009 at 9:10 pm #783143Thankies guys! DM, at the other meets the boys have run seperately from the girls – I don’t know why they ran together this time… I think maybe it was because the middle school athletes had a special invite to this meet? 😕 😕 😕 It’s also been good for the boyohs to see that there are other athletes out there that have their same body type – long and gangly… Not everyone is built like a football player and that’s just fine! Their self confidence is much better these days and they aren’t unhappy anymore when someone comments on their being tall, thin and gangly 😀

September 10, 2009 at 11:02 pm #783144On the West Coast, it seems like everybody is “fashionably slender” 😆
Congrats for your boys! And what a fantastic display of good sportsmanship.
September 10, 2009 at 11:52 pm #783145Indeed, that was a wonderful display of good sportsmanship! It’s nice that the kids, parents and coaches have such positive attitudes. 8)

LOL!!! Tall thin and gangly…That’s my son too! He’s 14 and 5’11” and weighs about 150. He thinks he is fat.
He’s not into sports though…I don’t know why, but he is just not so well coordinated. 😮 I used to be, but no so much anymore. 😳September 12, 2009 at 4:13 pm #783148How could you think yourself fat at 5’11” and 150???
5’8″ at 150 is not fat
