For any of you in the Northeast (or Florida), Hannaford Supermarkets (and Sweetbay in FL) were hit by hackers this week. I went to check my account over the weekend and found that the balance was ridiculously low. I had made a large payment at the end of the month and the day before it went through, some F*#@& maxed my card out to buy a bunch of NY Ranger tickets. Can we say pissed? 👿 Cancelled the card, changed all my card account logins (just be on the safe side) and a claim has been filed. Just sucks. This weekend is Anime Boston too (I’m the one covering my hotel room…). Thank goodness my parents are helping me out (my new card with new numbers hasn’t come in yet *grumble*). Talk about timing. Good thing I check my accounts often. I always take my receipt, am careful about my pin and all receipts or things that have card or personal/sensitive info that comes into the house is burned (we have a wood stove in the garage). Feeling lousy the last few days has just made my week.
Apparently, the card system was hacked (it was just discovered) since December during the verification process (it’s actually the weakest part of most transaction processing systems too, oddly enough), so no info like SS# was retrieved, and not all websites require the security pin off the back of your card either (which is what happened when my card info was used). So far, at least 2000 accounts have actually been used (so I found out from the woman I talked to today on the phone). The way the hackers got in is also new and a security breach not seen before, from what has been found so far.
Just an fyi to anyone who may be affected (or just good info to know). I could also use the rant.
At least, on a good note, Anime Boston will be fun. I’ve got my costumes done and I’m actually involved in the chess game (I’m sure it will end up on Youtube at some point next week). Meeting up with Drag0nfeathers again.

So do I. Just a real bummer 🙁 Was actually thinking about getting the male griffin this weekend, but checked my accounts first. My other card and what cash I had set aside are getting me through the convention and my parents are covering the hotel and my bus ticket (since I’m still feeling a little to ick to drive that far). They’ll be paid off at the end of the month. I was definitely reeling on Saturday though!
March 19, 2008 at 10:46 pm #680642Wow…that really sucks! I’m sorry to hear that happened. I hope they catch the person who did it!!! 👿
While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!
March 19, 2008 at 10:49 pm #680643I’m so sorry to hear this happened to you. Icky to say the least. Good luck getting everything back and have fun at Anime Boston.
March 19, 2008 at 10:50 pm #680644People suck! 👿 (well, some do) That’s so lousy. Hopefully some unexpected good will come out of it for you.
March 20, 2008 at 12:32 am #680645That sucks! I hope it all works out ok!
March 20, 2008 at 2:20 am #680646Sorry to hear that. Something similar happened to me with my Capital One card. Fortunately they thought it was suspicious and called me before processing the charge. So it was never charged to my account. I did have the account closed and a new card issued though. I don’t know why people can’t just get a legal job and earn their own money the right way.

What? And work? Are you nuts? They’re too good for work. 😡
March 20, 2008 at 7:32 am #680648I’m sorry to hear that, siberakh. Good luck getting your money back.
March 20, 2008 at 12:22 pm #680649That’s horrible! 🙁 Just try to focus on the con. Happy, anime-oriented thoughts… I hope you get to feeling better soon, physically and otherwise!
March 20, 2008 at 12:57 pm #680650I’m so sorry to hear about your card getting hacked! That really sucks, and I hope it all gets worked out soon. I am always so afraid of something like that happening to me. It’s just a way too common thing nowadays. Some people are just so rotten to do such things! 😡
March 20, 2008 at 3:20 pm #680651Yuck! That’s just awful.
March 20, 2008 at 6:31 pm #680652I am in the capital region of New York State and I have used Haniford a few times. I heard about the hacking over the news last night.
I keep meticulous records of my credit card transactions. So far, mine has not been used. But, I canceled it just to be safe. I will get a replacement next week.
siberakh1, I hope you are able to get your money back. Or what ever it is in this instance.
