That’s a lot of money. 😯 I hope they know how small it really is…maybe they think it’s OW size… 😉
September 27, 2007 at 5:56 pm #621079Goodness! These always leave me scratching my head a bit. More than one person must have wanted it $600 worth, or it wouldn’t have gotten pushed that high. So strange!! The unique and special pieces don’t reach that dollar amount half the time.

My art: featherdust.comSeptember 27, 2007 at 6:43 pm #621080I followed and saw this too – and I thought the emerald going for 455 was insane. Surprised it was beat by a peacock (as in my experience, Ive watching emeralds go for more as a color).
I agree that you should DEF do research before getting invested into that kind of price. Some are really addicted to eBay and HATE to be outbid that it no longer becomes about the money or even what youre bidding on, it becomes about competition and not letting someone one up you. It is the eBay Phenomena- and it’s dangerous. Then you have your “Sparklie Jumpers”, that see something they werent expecting and jump at it and then fall into the syndrome.
Maybe this seller saw what happened with the emerald one and figured on selling her peacock. Good call. And yes, I bet now the place will be flooded with coiled mamas.

That is something I alway do. Even if there is only a few minutes to the end of an auction, I’ll research it to find out how much it is worth and if I can get it cheaper elsewhere. But then again I have been desperate in the past. 🙄
September 27, 2007 at 9:32 pm #621082Smells fraudulent somehow… what could they be up to? Money laundering?
September 27, 2007 at 10:33 pm #621083I doubt it she bought 2 of your auctions as well.
September 27, 2007 at 11:23 pm #621084WHOA! Since my husband and I are the ones you’re talking about with the P mother coiled, I figured I’d fill you in on what’s going on:
We DID do the research on most of these, however we are exchanging complete sets of dragons as wedding gifts to each other, and SAVED $ for over a year specifically for windstone purchases. Some of the research was done after the bidding spree, and we did kick ourselves when we found local dealers with much better prices. 😳
Since there really isn’t a site for one-stop-shopping on what each piece is worth, and we both work too many hours each day, research time was not always fruitful–even here in this forum.
Two other names came up on the bidding on the P mother, and they were the ones that pushed the price up. Personally, I would’ve stopped at about $315, but since it’s one of the last ones we need in P, he bought it anyway.
The BVP OW#6 was free because of a slot machine in Central City (big gambling town in Colorado). 😀 He is the crown jewel in our brand new collection! Again, someone else started fighting for it, and pushed the price up.
Over the last couple of weeks, I think I’ve talked to or emailed every dealer in Colorado, the surrounding states, and anywhere I have family!
Bottom line–nothing illegal is going on, we’re just having A LOT OF FUN, and have gotten 25 dragons, two sconces, a cat’s cradle, and a candlelamp since the 12th of August. I’d say that’s one awesome dragon hunt, and if we helped some folks out when they needed money, that’s even better.
Don’t think anyone but the staff at WE could put two retired collections together as quickly as we have done, although I could be wrong! 🙂
Now for the griffins! 😆 (just kidding! that’s my goal for 2009…)
Later!
September 27, 2007 at 11:30 pm #621085Hope youre not taking offense at what I (or anyone here) has said. And, based on what you said, as long as your pleased and happy, thats all that matters anyway.
As for things Ive said here, I was talking about what happens on eBay in general, and not necessarily this auction. It’s been said that if someone was looking for their final piece, that that wouldnt surprise ppl here when the price goes up.
It does stink that you had to deal with a bidding war which drive the price up. I hope she arrives to you in perfect condition and brings you guys much happiness. I think what youre doing (exchanging etc) is actually very sweet.
Congrats!!!

Thanks!
Not offended, just wanted to tell our side of things!
Ebay is a nightmare at times, and I’ve been lucky enough to find all of my husband’s dragons through the local dealers, and 2 specifically through tips from this forum. (thanks again, you know who you are!!!)

Your avatar looks like one of my Arabians… She’s a black bay, and I traced her lineage all the way back into the Egyptian desert to Queen of Sheba, then it all says desert bred!
September 28, 2007 at 1:39 am #621091Since I started the thread, I wanted you to know I wasn’t criticizing either buyer or seller…
I have been looking for the Peacock and Emerald Coiled Mommas and fortunately, was able to purchase them for more reasonable prices. I was astounded that the two that were on Ebay went for so much 🙂
I bought a wholed bunch of stuff this year…in April, I had about 20 pieces that I had collected over almost 20 years and then I started buying for my birthday and I can’t seem to stop…
So Congratulations and I am Happy that you got the pieces you needed 🙂 We are a friendly bunch here…and we can help you.
Here is what I started with:
And here are some of the ones I have now…about 110 at latest count…you can look through my photobucket for some of the other pictures..
