I’ve seen a photo of a Copper Patina Lap Dragon, but it appears to be the darker form (called “version 2” on the griffins), and I’m not sure if it was an Ebay piece, a test paint, or ????
Does anyone remember these, and know a bit more about them? And were any produced in the bright “version 1” CP color?
Interested in buying or trading for: GB Pebble Sitting Red Fox in dark grey, Lap Dragon Test Paints (Water Sprite, Glacial Pearl, Opulence, Pastel Rainbow, and many others - see my Classifieds ad), Blue Morpho OW, GB Pebble Loaf dragons in blue/aqua/teal, and Griffin Test Paints (Black Rainbow or Frosted Jade).
December 14, 2015 at 10:08 pm #938180Copper Patina Lap Dragons were produced for the store at least twice. The color varied somewhat and the eye color was changed from red to teal in the later version. Did you see the text that accompanied the store listing?
The Lap Dragon looks perfectly groomed even when she wears a distressed copper patina finish. These “rescue” dragons are pieces that had slight casting defects. Normally we would have destroyed these, but we have devised a way to make use of otherwise perfectly good dragons by painting them with a textured “distressed antique” finish that enhances the surface flaws with patina and makes them beautiful. A few random scales are highlighted with brighter gold, copper, or a hint of violet, and their gold horns are also antiqued with patina. We all think they are gorgeous; they look like weathered cast bronze. We have given this batch red jewels and deep red eyes. These dragons vary slightly in texture and color because every one of these dragons is an individual. These are unsigned limited production.
This new version, introduced 5/27/11, with teal eyes and a blue zircon jewel is painted in a brighter and more reddish copper color than our previous copper patina dragons, and the surface may be smoother.

December 16, 2015 at 12:39 am #938254Well, that explains one thing — I did remember that some early CPs were produced with an eye color other than teal (and that’s why all the CPs now specify the eye color, though I don’t think any non-teal-eyed CPs have been made in a while). I’d forgotten the Lap was one of those! Thank you. 🙂
Original question remains, though — were any Laps produced in a CP color akin to the “Version 1” griffins? The Lap on the Postponed Production page is very dark, definitely on the “Version 2” side of the scale. The text says that the teal-eyed ones were “a brighter and more reddish copper” than the red-eyed ones, but the picture is of a teal-eyed one and it’s pretty dark! Nowhere near as ‘bright and reddish’ as the Version 1 Griffins, so if anyone here has either version (or both, and can do a side-by-side comparison!) and wants to add data, please do!
