I don’t know how fast news travels, but for the past few hours, several of us here at Home Depot have been gathered in the break room at work right now watching this horror unfold live on the news. I have no words that can even describe how sorry I feel for the familes involved. I sincerely hope nobody here has any loved ones that may be affected by this event, but my heart goes out to the families. Im conflicted with how to feel about this right now, but honestly, all I can think right now is, What the hell is wrong with people?

I too am at loss for words… I always start thinking … If we could do some random mass kindness that would equal, inversely, this sort of mass horror- What would it be?
December 14, 2012 at 11:09 pm #889955This is such a “tragedy”. What an insufficient word for a horrific crime of immeasurable proportions. I do not understand how this keeps happening and nothing is done to change the laws that allow these guns in the hands of mostly anyone who wants one. I know it is not the gun that is the issue but it is the means by which this individual took so many innocent lives in a remarkably short period of time. My heart breaks for the families and as a mother my spirit feels crushed for those mothers and fathers who will never hold their children in their arms or the families of the adults lost who will never again say I Love You to them.
I can’t say anymore….so saddened by the inhumanity in a world of supposed humanity. **Shakes head as tears fall**

Is there even a mass kindness that would be equal to this tragedy? I just can’t think of anything right now.
I just can’t… I don’t know what he must have been thinking to do that.

All three of those guns were registered, to his mother, but still registered. How does it work in Conn? What does it take to get a riffle/handgun?
December 15, 2012 at 7:27 am #889989The fact that this happened in an elementary school takes it to a whole other level.
It is so scary the way we view guns. At least once a week someone tells me that they are going to shoot their neighbor’s dog if it gets out again, especially if it’s a pitbull. So many people are willing to start shooting in their own neighborhoods, with children in yards and in houses. It is disgusting. I think a lot of mandatory classes on gun safety need to be passed before someone can get a gun. Not only do people not know how to use their guns, they don’t know when.
::Steps off soapbox and continues to try not bawl for all the children at that school::
December 15, 2012 at 1:12 pm #889990I´m at a total loss for words.
What has to happen inside someone that he decides to do something horrible like this?
My heart goes out to all the families who lost someone yesterday.December 15, 2012 at 3:30 pm #889994What has to happen inside someone that he decides to do something horrible like this?
That’s the question, really. I’m very empathetic; I tend to understand why people do things, even if I don’t agree with them. But something like this, I just don’t get it…
Like Drag0n said, what’s wrong with people?

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmDecember 15, 2012 at 6:04 pm #889997This is so heartbreaking–I’m at a loss for words myself–why????? All those children–I think of their parents sending them off to school that day, we all think that our children will be safe at school and then this–so many of them! It just makes me sick. I feel for those parents and the families of the adults as well. Last I saw the police have good evidence on the gunman and may be able to come up with a motive–it won’t help those who lost family. As bad as my days get, I could never imagine myself going off the cliff and doing something like this–it’s sad when one decides to kill themselves but to take the lives of innocent children and adults? I’m just baffled–heartbroken.

I believe that lots of people change the world in a good way. Unfortunately, we only hear about the bad ones … and then the coverage is wall-to-wall. 🙁

I just can’t… I don’t know what he must have been thinking to do that.
The idea of committing an ‘act of mass kindness’ seems the best response one could make to an unspeakable event like this. I wonder what we could do.

I keep trying to think of something. I want to do SOMETHING so that I can be reminded that good things can happen if we put our minds to it.
My husband’s a teacher. It’s supposed to be a safe profession! I don’t want to be worried every time he goes to work… 🙁
December 18, 2012 at 2:06 pm #890131There is no safe profession. Tragedy can strike any one of us at any time, be it health problems or outside sources. Worry is normal, and it means you care very much for a person, which is wonderful, but don’t let it rule you. When you can, live for the moment, love what you have, let other people know it. The biggest regrets I have heard older folks voice is not spending more time with loved ones or telling them how special they are before they are gone. I am not trying to be a bummer– this can actually be a very uplifting feeling, to always be in touch with how you feel about folks. You can really make someone’s day.
