Is there a way for me to set my internet browser to open up a new window every time I click on a link? I have windows XP.
July 14, 2008 at 9:48 pm #722750Which browser are you using? I use Firefox, and while I don’t know if there’s a way to get it to open a new window every time you left click, in Firefox (and I think IE) you can right click a link, and select “Open link in new window”.
Hope that helps!
July 14, 2008 at 10:07 pm #722751Ok, I will use that until I can figure out how to select it as an option somewhere. I have Internet Explorer.
July 14, 2008 at 10:14 pm #722752Which version? I’m looking for a solution for you. 😀
July 14, 2008 at 10:20 pm #722753Go on your browser at the top: click tools
Then click internet options
On the General tab, go at the bottom where it says “Change how webpages are displayed in tabs”
Click settings
At the bottom where it says “Open links from from other programs in:”
Click “a new window” then OK and then apply.Try that and see, if not, just comme back and undo it to the original setting you had it at.

You are welcome…did you try it?
If it doesn’t work you know that if you right click on the link then click “Open in new window” that would also be an option

I’m intrigued as to why you would want a link to always open in a new window (thereby cluttering up the program tab listing at the bottom of your screen) instead of opening in a new tab.
Certainly it’s often useful to click on a link and have it open in a new tab or window instead of having the link simply replace the current page. I use a right-click “open in new tab” on the fly, for that, leaving the default set to accepting whatever the specific link is coded to do.
But by opening new tabs or windows you do lose the cool ability to use the “back” and “forward” buttons as a navigation tool.

It can also bog your computer down to have many instances of the browser open, if your computer is older.

Oh, it’s nothing important really, but there are some websites I frequent where that option comes in handy, and I would just use it for that, although I never considered just having the windows open in new tabs. I will probably do that instead. 😉 Thanks!
