So, I commissioned an artist who is advertised in the flea market – in February 2010. I still don’t have my commissioned piece, and it’s been paid for (yeah, stupid trusting me) I bought the sculpt and the artist deducted the commission cost out of an expensive limited edition piece that I bought and sent to them. If I get a reply to my emails (BIG IF), there has been one excuse after another.
Just curious if others have had a problem with an advertised artist and I figure some of you probably know about whom this refers – I think we should be allowed to report problems since the artists are allowed to post triumphs. I know of one other person who is struggling with a problem from the same artist. There is a WHITE LIST somewhere, that refers to eBay purchases I think – so is there a similar reference list for commission experiences on the forum or is that just word of mouth/between friends and hidden in the shadows? I guess this would apply to repair work, too.
Take this as a HUGE warning – let the artist buy the sculpt and NEVER pay before it’s done — How dumb could I be? “THAT’S what she said.”
I welcome any PMs on the topic – and wonder just how much info I am allowed to post to the forum.

November 15, 2010 at 7:11 pm #501943AnonymousNovember 15, 2010 at 7:44 pm #831683It was someone on the forum?? That realy sucks, I had hoped we had gotten rid of all the bad eggs around here.
I have had bad problems like this with two members so far, neither of which show their face around here very often anymore. One I had issues with recently made good though after 2 years of pestering so don’t give up. I most definately wouldn’t barter for something and give it to them ahead of time with out knowing 100% for sure they are trust worthy though.
I have been paid in advance for items and not had any promblems yet, but I have been on the receiving end on many transactions and been completely screwed. I’m trying to take a girl in Oklahoma to small claims for a commission I paid nearly $500 almost 2 years ago and it’s very difficult to collect from somone who doesn’t respond and vanishes. It’s very fustraiting and I’m sorry you have to go through it. Not too much is more aggrivating then trying to collect from someone who is ignoring you.

The internet never forgets.
Maybe if we started a “References” thread and anyone wanting to check up on a potential trade/sales partner could post “I’d like references on __________________” and those people that had dealt with the named person could PM the person requesting the info-that way it would be more private and might cut back any potential spiteful folks.
Another idea is creating a LiveJournal group or something like that where anyone could see the positive comments but you had to login to see the negative ones?
In the My Little Pony community, everyone tries to be civil (but it is a HUGE community with a greater mixture than here) but if you have something not nice to say, there is another forum called the “Cat FIght Board” where anything goes. And you have to be a member of the forum to see ANY of the posts. I haven’t ever looked at it, but I’ve heard things…and I imagine its brutal lol
Anyone have any thoughts on a fair way to keep tabs on feedback?
November 15, 2010 at 9:17 pm #831685I don’t have any ideas about how to do a fair feedback system but i wish in cases like this names were allowed to be said because i have no idea who this is about and i’d like to know certain people to avoid transactions with before i learn myself the hard way
November 15, 2010 at 10:05 pm #831686sorry you have to deal with this π this is what gives us artists a bad name!!!! π i hope it doesn’t discourage others from commissioning artists here because there are truly some amazing folks here. it just sucks when one ruins it for others.
November 15, 2010 at 11:48 pm #831687I hate to hear about this Poems π
I know I’m pretty darned new here as far as things go, but I have had bad dealings with people over the internet before and I certainly can empathize with your situation.
It’s tough when it comes to transactions of this type as well, to protect both sides when there’s no middle man like Ebay or anything to give guarantees if something goes wrong. Trying to decide how long is too long before feeling like you’ve been burned is tough because some people have legitimate reasons to take a long time on things.
I know myself, and I know that when someone asks me to do something for them, whether it be painting a windstone or drawing a simple picture for them, I dive in headfirst and make sure it gets done. I like making people proud of me. Unfortunately a lot of people do see the limited anonymity of the internet as an easy way to take advantage of others. I’m not saying that this person did that – I don’t know them and I don’t know all the facts – but I do know that you’re feeling burned and I’m so very sorry to hear about it π I hope it still works out for you, even though it’s been this long.
I actually had looked at the “white list/black list” XML file yesterday that someone posted quite a while ago (I think it was sPark?) because I really want to do commissioned work and I really want to be trusted. Unfortunately Daydreamer is right, and situations like this only make it harder for people to trust people π If someone figures out a way to make a list that pertains to forum members, I’ll do anything I can to help!

Please visit My Webpage to see my art and PYO's that I've done in the past!November 16, 2010 at 12:07 am #831688Folks, along with the White, I host a Black list. PM me all the info and I will add it to the list. I update both lists upon request. I ask for objective info in both cases, and for the negative stuff, things are very well documented, so no risk of anyone doing stuff out of spite.
Both list are always available here, just choose the tab – one for white, one for black. The page defaults to the disclaimers, which state that Windstone has nothing to do with the lists.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

Thanks all for the sympathy (that’s what I need). I know this person isn’t intentionally taking advantage, nor had any malicious intent. It’s just feeling that way, because:
My MAIN complaint here is the total lack of communication. Because I do understand how life gets in the way of accomplishments, sometimes. Combine the lack of communication, a buyer (and especially one that has paid in full) should not be left wondering week after week with no word. The unending excuses. I’ve asked for the sculpt back, I’ve asked for my money back. I get promises that it will be done, and watch time frames that come and go.
This person came highly recommended by all – but anyone out there still waiting and wondering about their commissioned piece has got to be feeling just like me. Difference could be they didn’t pay for the sculpt OR for the work – I did. I waited a long time before finally posting about it. Anonymously – but you know I just want to scream.
November 16, 2010 at 3:48 am #831690I have been trying to think of a way to do this that cannot being legal trouble upon our heads. Because you are right, it would be more fair to know when there is a problem (especially a reoccurring problem) with anyone that deals here.

My art: featherdust.comNovember 16, 2010 at 3:55 am #831691I’m sorry this is happing to you. I think my biggest pet peeve is poor communication in situations like this. As the buyer, you have no idea what’s going on if the seller isn’t communicating. Simple as that. You don’t know if the person fell of the the planet or if they are trying to pull a fast one on you or if something happened to them, ie., family emergency or whatever. In the case of the latter, I can accept bad communication. It’s nerve racking as a buyer, but life happens.
But if someone is just not talking to you, well then, It makes it difficult for the buyer to feel confident about the transaction and in turn doesn’t make the seller seem very reliable – even if that seller is totally legit and honest. That’s just my two cents….November 16, 2010 at 4:25 am #831692AnonymousJennifer wrote:I have been trying to think of a way to do this that cannot being legal trouble upon our heads. Jen, I replied to a PM that it could be helpful to have a heading titled: ASK ME ABOUT and then within that a person could post a topic: Ask Me About COMMISSIONS or Ask Me About REPAIRS or Ask Me About BIRDS or Ask Me About PAINTS …….etc etc. An Ask Me Thread. Then I would create the post Ask Me About COMMISSIONS to which I would report that I had a not-so-fun experience and they could send me a message to learn more……………….you could have a post about the BIRDS because you are knowledgeable……….. others could have a post about what THEY are knowledgeable about. Not just bad experiences either – my COMMISSIONS post might be followed by someone who has had a positive.
Or not.
lol Just thinking out loud. My advice over and over and over: DON’T EVER PAY BEFORE HAND. And yes, there are problems on the flip side if a Buyer doesn’t pay even after the job has been done – that would stink, too :/ And oh just so everyone knows, I can’t give up on this person – I just really really wish they would at LEAST – in the VERY LEAST – keep in contact. And quit giving excuses – we all have those.

Exactly how I feel. π
While I have purchased PYOs from several people, the only one I have actually commissioned to do pieces is KoishiiKitty. She is fantastic to deal with. π My only complaint was her wanting to ship so as to save me money, while I wanted to pay more and get it faster. π

LOL Yeah I watched Koishi paint on that webview place (sorry don’t know where the heck I was!) and she’s awesome. I can’t believe she would want to save you money in shipping LOL
November 16, 2010 at 4:58 am #831695I like it when Koi does that! I give her most of my money anyway, so saving some is nice. Plus I get a KOISHII BONANZA!!! It’s like “OMG! That’s AWESOME! Oh look, there’s more! OH MY GAWD!!!!!! THAT’S AWSEOME TOO!!!! OH OH OH OH!!!!! ONE MORE!!!! ZOMG!!!!! THAT’S FREAKING AWSEOME!!! THEY ARE ALL SO AWEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSOMEEEEEEEEE!” π
