you guys have way too much time on your hands 😆 (who has time to search for those kinds of websites haha)

Me! At work! Actually I went on Google and typed in like, “Collective Noun Animal Group” or something.

A Flame of Dragons? A Claw of Basalisks?

Brood of basilisks works. That even sounds familiar.

I don’t think we ever came to an agreement on what a group of dragons would be called – I like this one –

          “A Confabulation of Dragons”

          http://www.scottgustafson.com/WN_Confab_painting1.html

Mr. Gustafson says “I have always been fascinated by the words that have become the names for groups of various types of animals, such as a gaggle of geese, a pod of whales, or a pride of lions, which are some of the more commonly used terms. But there are also those like a mob of kangaroos, a convocation of eagles, a wisp of snipes, a clutter of spiders and two of my favorites: a skulk of foxes and a parliament of owls.

In that vein, I was wondering what a group of dragons might be called. Finding no name already given it seemed that a linguistic gauntlet had been thrown my way. Rifling both mind and dictionary I happened to stumble upon a wonderful word, confabulate, whose Webster definition is

          1) To talk informally; to chat.
          2) To replace fact with fantasy in memory.

As Thoreau once said, ‘There was pasture enough for my imagination’ and ‘A Confabulation of Dragons’ was born.”

I have the old 1980s “Flight of Dragons” movie… but maybe it’s only for when they are in the air. 😆

I remember that movie! I have the book!

I’ve settled on using the term “magnificence” for a collection of dragons.

I like that one too, Twingragonsmum!! The story behind it wins it for me. How appropriate!

I always liked cheetahs–they come in troops! When I was little, my mom used to read my sister and I a book all about the different groups of animals and their funny names. The cheetahs had little WWII helmets 😆

Do you remember the title of that book, Chris?

I tried….and I can’t!! I tried searching on Amazon to see if I could find it–I would recognize the illustration style. Very soft, fairly realistic, like watercolor or pencil illustrations. But bright colors. And it was square. Unfortunately NONE of these things make good search queries 😈

I did find a few when I searched “A Gaggle of Geese”. There were some that came up that seemed to be the same subject matter, but not the one I was thinking. They looked very cute though! I thought it might have been this one, but it was published in 2007 and we were definitely reading that book pre-’90s.

Ooh! And a group of cats was called a chowder!!
