Check around at Thrift/ second hand stores, or even Walmart for the little itty bitty trees, even if it is for just one year. I think you can get a small table top tree for something like $8 or less that assembles in like 2 minutes. I’ve seen lots of stuff like that in thrift/second hand stores near me. If you have a large, sturdy indoor plant, you could try decorating that, to be creative. Make paper ornaments with construction paper, paper, marker, glitter, paint, etc., like the garlands that kids make in school. Popcorn and dried fruit (or just popcorn) work too. Another idea is like the easter trees that some people put up with blown eggs on them. You take a stick with lots of twigs on it (or a bunch) and put it in a can filled with dirt or sand (anything that will keep it sturdy and still) and decorate it with light ornaments. I’ve used paper clips for hooks before. String and ribbon work well too. Just some ideas for if you are stuck to a very slim budget! :}
I think most people are looking to be thrifty this year, whether by choice or by need.
Great ideas. We’ve used several of those over the years. Especially the first few we were married and broke.
We still have a Star made from Popsicle sticks that my husband made when he was in Boy Scouts forty years ago. Spay painted gold and glued glitter on it. The kids found it at Gramma’s house when they were little and brought it home. Now it is tradition to hang it as the last ornament to go on the tree. 🙂The year our family moved to England we didn’t have a tree… We had a Christmas Ladder! One string of lights, lots of paper chains and a star made from foil. Best ‘tree’ and Christmas we ever had 😀

December 4, 2008 at 3:25 pm #743628Ours from last year, we haven’t gotten this year’s tree yet…it’s the one thing we can actually do this Christmas, is get a tree!! Most of the ornaments on ours I painted myself, I love them! Even the angel is repainted, Zack says she looks like me, and she has a custom made silver star she holds in her hands.
December 4, 2008 at 4:52 pm #743629Here is our tree. I have a few Eeyors up there that I have been using for 9 yrs. I have a few dragon pieces and my boys get to pick a new ornament each year (I put their name and date on them) so we have misc. pieces like Spongebob, Batman, King Kong, Rudolf, and Optimus Prime. The rest are blown glass pieces, frame ornaments, a couple the kids made in school, and round ornaments. The angel on top has fiberoptic wings, front of dress, and star in hand.

December 4, 2008 at 6:23 pm #743631Oh that is a wonderful idea to let your boys choose ornaments every year! Both trees are so pretty! 😀

Your tree sounds a lot like ours 😀 I don’t have Eeyore but I do have several Breyer and Pegasus ornaments and a few Akitas. We’ve also done the same thing with our kids. When they have their own homes they get their ornaments as well to start their first tree. We also pack as many lights as we can on there 😀
