Some ppl dont like to say where theyre from which I respect, but if you dont care, did everyone here thats from central (inland) FL make it through the unexpected, uncharacteristic, surprising weather system we had last evening and through the night?
For those of you who are interested and dont know, apparently some rotational tropical weather system was stirred up in the Gulf of Mexico and FL received hurricane-like feeder bands. However, it brought winds in excess of 60 MPH along with funnel clouds. This was a 3 cell storm (3 parts that came in waves) and touched quite a number of counties so it was very widespread, yet very intense. Emergency weather alarms were going off in everyones houses that have them, constantly warning of tornadoes which were spottred and likely touched down in places. Some minor wind damage around us after the fact but havent seen the rest of the community. Power loss and gas pumps down. This was a VERY nasty evening and night, without my expanding my opinions here. If you have friends in this area, call and check on them.
Any central FL Windstoner’s badly affected? Hope everyone came through alright!
Best

September 21, 2007 at 7:31 pm #619196Because of previous posts, most ppl know Vapordragon is in central FL. Hey man, are you OK? Weather the storm alright (sorry- no pun intended there). Hope youre OK and check in when you can!
September 21, 2007 at 7:50 pm #619197The tornadoes touched down in a small town northwest of Orlando. Luckily, no deaths, just a couple of injuries.

September 21, 2007 at 7:50 pm #619198We had some horrible weather in Minnesota yesterday too. First we had rain then hail (nickel-size), then it cleared up, so I thought I would run to the post office and mail WSC’s and Travistie’s packages. I pulled into the parking lot when a tornado warning was issued for the town the post office was in. I ended up staying at the post office longer because the woman in front of me had to look at all the different stamps before chosing one, and there was a tornado on the way! I thought I could get it, mail the stuff, and get out, but NOoooooo! I had to stay at the post office until the tornado warning ended because the wind was blowing so hard outside I was afraid to try to go to my car. I guess they had to pull a bunch of cars out of the ditches of the highway yesterday after that. They got blown off the road!
But I made it home okay. And there was no damage to our house. I wonder how our tent at Fest is doing…?
September 21, 2007 at 8:13 pm #619199Glad you’re okay, that’s the important thing. Hope your tent is still there. 😕

September 22, 2007 at 12:42 am #619202That was crazy last night. Me and my dogs could not sleep. Oh yeah PhoenixTears I’m right down the road from you, 5 miles. 🙂
September 22, 2007 at 2:40 am #619203sounds like everyone here was OK which is GOOD
September 23, 2007 at 8:55 pm #619204Vapordragon- now that Ive moved, we are neighbors of a sort! I knew since we ran into each other, that you were local to this area (*Bellview Pizza rules; we found it back in 2000 when mom moved here). And, I figured that if we were having weather over here, that you were definitely in the thick of it like we were.
Glad you came through it alright, albeit a sleepless night.
Apparently, sink holes of varying sizes have suddenly opened up all over this development. This is new and one is in my moms backyard property border. Close enough to the house to threaten it but, small enough thus far, that they havent told us to do anything about it. However, a 2 ton square box transformer sits on that area which doesnt help things. For now, it’s the golf cart path that runs behind the house that is having problems and they have to repair that concrete. They tried to fill it in around the transformer but it doesnt look sturdy to me. Hopefully theyll do a better job of it instead of a “band aid.” Were assuming that so many opened up suddenly, because tho it’s the rainy season here, the week had been heavy in rain in the afternoon and nights, but with that storm night, it dumped an excess amount in record time. There was a guy poking around the property in the middle of the following night (!) which I noticed and alerted moms bf about since I had no clue who he was. He came in and informed us about the sink hole and what they would be doing so that when we saw ppl on the property in following days, not to worry.
Anyway, glad those of you who checked in are alright. I know theres lots of other FL ppl here that didnt check which is their right if they dont want everyone knowing where they live, but I hope youre all, alright.
September 23, 2007 at 9:02 pm #619205Sinkholes! Jeez, PT and vapordragon, I hope neither of you has trouble with those! Or any of our other Florida members . . . and anyone else who lives in sinkhole country.
Yeah, I know: gal in earthquake central gets the creepies over sinkholes. 😛 But seriously, good luck with the weather and may the ground stay solid!
September 24, 2007 at 2:13 pm #619206Hay PT, when are we going to get some pizza 🙂 . I hope the sinkhole doesnt get any worse. I have worked on a lot of houses where you live and there is band aids everywhere. When building there was fast it only took 32 days to build a house start to finish.
