Hey Melody,
I saw you said in the Windstone Rejects thread that the gypsum company had sent you guys a sample that seemed to work, but then you said something in another thread that made me think maybe this still hadn’t been figured out, so…how’s that going? Was it a real fix or no?
This is typical when we test new gypsum.. it seems to work, then after a few castings defects begin to appear again.
I am not the one who is doing the gypsum experiments, John and Jane ( who is our multi-tasking moldmaker/eyepainter) and the casters; Matt and Wendy, are the ones working on it, so I only know what I’m told about it from them. The latest results sound very promising. The castings are coming out nearly perfect, but they are still testing it for strength.
We are now formulating our own gypsum.
We have are carts full of castings that could be copper patina, but they are mostly Oriental dragons. They have been set aside until someone has time to finish the castings by trimming out the “flashing” at the seam lines and cleaning up the bottoms. This detail work is very time consuming when the piece isn’t perfect… so we haven’t been able to work on it right now. Everyone is concentrating on getting good stuff finished.
